McGuyver Reboot!

But…

If McGuyver were to start out fresh in 2015, would he use a Victorinox SAK, or would he, (dare I utter the words,) use a Leatherman?

May the Swiss mountain gods forgive me!

I would hope that the new MacGyver use both the SAKs and a multi-tool. No reason not to really. I hope that Victorinox gets involved and they are chosen for use on the show. Hope they pick a believable stud-muffin as opposed to some Joe Teti type.

I'd be happy if they just refrain from the blatant anti-gun bias that infected the original show.

Interesting story. I was involved in a writing competition for the next generation MacGyver over the summer. It was specifically going to have a female lead and only be loosely inspired by Mac the science/tech guy. Purposely NOT a reboot with just a female lead. The concept behind it was to create a popular show for the 14-25 year old demographic that would hopefully lead to an increase in young ladies in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) programs. My manuscript was not chosen so I have no idea where the development team is at or if the concept got shelved or is still in development.
Rebooting MacGyver is obviously very different than what I was writing for. Curious if both shows will ever make it to air.

P.S. I armed my main character with a smart phone and a Gerber 600 series multi. Mainly because I thought snapping the head open one handed would be a good effect on TV. It made me almost cry that she wouldn't be carrying a SAK.

The new Macgyver.

my vote would be for someone like Owen Wilson.
he's been pretty good at pulling off quirky action hero roles.
Or
dean anderson dead ringer
Billy burke

I can only stand a few minutes of screen time with Owen Wilson lately. Behind Enemy Lines was his only really good role and performance. Otherwise, he plays the same character every time...

I actually think someone more along the lines of Zachary Quinto could pull off a 21st century Mac really well.

But that's the whole point of Macgyver. Because of a traumatic experience with a gun, as explained in the earliest episodes, he refuses thereafter to use one and resorts to his ingenuity with alternate methods instead. MacGyver with a gun becomes another show. BTW, not everyone is in love with guns.

imo the mcguyver character is one of a die hard pacifist.
And in potraying a man of action and adventure.
Mcguyver is a thinking man's hero
And therefore the absolute opposite of jason bourne or g'wad forbid,
An ice cold james bond.
When it comes to dealing with "human obstacles"
More often than not,
the action plan is only to induce
temporary incapacitation on the adversary...
Its this contradiction
Which makes mcguyver a rare and lovable "G" rated staple.

Been a long time since I have watched one of the old shows. I don't recall an anti-gun bias other than he never used a gun. But political speak, I don't recall. Shows were full of the anti-gun bias during that time and continue today.

Wasn't it bad enough the first time?

Couldn't tell you how bad it was. I was a lot younger then and my taste in these matters was not yet fully developed. I found it entertaining, tried to draw inspiration from Macgyver's improvisation ability, but never came up to that level. Still trying, though :D

The point of the show might be MacGyver using his ingenuity but I'm tired of the PC correct hollywood types trying to shove their anti-gun rhetoric down our throats.
The show should be an hour of entertainment, not a hour of brain washing.

Macgyver needs lots of Leathermans...............:)
