McMaster-Carr quenchant oil

I use the 11 second on 1084 and it seems to work.Don't think it would be fast enough for 1095 though.

It's good oil...

I use Park's 50 which is faster but have recommended the 11 second oil to many folks using W2, W1 and it works good. The P-50 will give more hamon activity though.
Park's oil is available here in the for sale section.

SBuzek,
the 11 second oil is plenty fast enough for 1095. I'll be starting a thread tomorrow with pic's and results:D

How about Admirals HR 1075/1080, is 11 seconds fast enough? That is what I am going to be forging before too long!

I use McMaaster-Carr 11 second oil on 1095 and have no problem with blades up to 5/32 thick. I have not tried it on thicker stuff but I believe it will work on any thickness common to knife blades. I do not have a hardness tester but I would like to test a couple of blades before and after tempering to get an idea of actual hardness as quenched and tempered. I believe it is the best bang for the buck as far as quench oils go. My 5 gallon pail was $75.00 delivered.

It is rumored that Houghton Quench-K is re-packaged as the 11 second oil from Mcmaster Carr. I use the Quench-K and it is fine for 1095. At least I get chipping on the edge with the brass rod test, tempered at 325F.

It is not repackaged for McMaster-Carr, the oil is manufactured by a different company. Are you sure you're not thinking of Houghto-Quench G being repackaged as Tuff-Quench?
