Long story very short: She's selling masks via raffles or first come first serve while paid orders are still unfulfilled.

A few weeks ago I reached out to MCMD on IG looking for some face masks. My wife works in a pharmacy and they were worried about their supply of disposable masks drying up.

Long story short: we struck a trade deal. My ZT 0450 for 6 custom face masks in any floral or classic patterns. I even threw in a fresh mirror polished edge.

I was aware that they weren't going to ship immediately as she was waiting on fabric and elastic. No biggie. A few days later she does a live video showing that she received some elastic and fabrics. Cool! Should receive my masks soon right?

Two weeks later she's sold dozens of masks on IG either in raffles or just first come first serve while my masks are backordered. If you've got masks to sell then you've got masks to fill orders.

Yesterday she sold over twenty masks, 10 of which would've fit the parameters of my order. Today she told me that mine should be shipped sometime this week... No lady, mine should have been shipped yesterday.

I'll post screenshots of our DMs and her sale posts shortly.

These three posts from yesterday show 10 masks that I'd certainly call either classical or floral patterned being sold:

Hope she pulls her head out of her hanky and manages to do right by you.

Nice looking mod on her new 450, btw.

Ya sweet knife indeed she’s got there. You shoulda went to the top of the line. Sucks man that went from pleasant to :poop: real quick.

You sent the knife and then immediately went to the bottom of the list, if you're even on it any more.

Though to be fair, these homemade masks do about as much good as absolutely nothing at all on your face, so all of these people selling masks are basically scamming the population.

I believe the biggest benefit of the homemade masks is they keep you from touching your nose/mouth with contaminated hands.

Hey, my old 0450 is in there! Sorry about the situation, just awful.

I thought that might've been your photo. She was talking about anodizing it in a live video and that's always been my favorite 0450 and job.

UPDATE: She sent my knife back (she sent me tracking for what she says is my knife anyway) after claiming that she'd had my masks done the whole time and it was all a misunderstanding. When asked why she sent the knife back rather than just sending the masks she tried to claim it was because I was being unreasonable and trying to hurt a small business that's just trying to help people...

Why the hell would you send back a $150 knife instead of sending $20 worth of fabric if the masks were already made? She so clearly had the better end of that deal. How does sending the knife back hurt me in any way?

I can't know for sure of course but all signs point to her ignoring paid orders in favor of new sales and just bailing on the deal for a quick resolution and opportunity to play the victim, at least in her own mind.

She also hasn't posted the 6 masks that she supposedly made for me for sale, odd for someone who makes sale posts almost daily. My bet is scrambling to fill other paid orders before a bandwagon can form.

We got masks elsewhere btw. I can sew, so it was never a real NEED. Just thought my wife might dig some of the fabrics she was using.

It helps prevent the expulsion of the virus rather than the intake. My mask protects you and your masks protects me. The system only works if everyone is wearing them of course.

I don't have any real delusion of being safe because I'm wearing a fabric mask, but at least I can bitch about the people that aren't in good conscience. :D

You might have the guy I was replying to on ignore? I was explaining a benefit of wearing homemade masks, he was the one saying they were useless.

No, I saw it. I was more elaborating than replying. The system's not perfect. ;)

Uh... I don't really what to say to begin with.

I am glad you received your knife back, I would have never traded such a knife for half a docen home-made masks.

I seriously doubt about the real functionality of home made masks. Most of the people complain about glasses fogging, which means that the air your exhale is going up between the mask and your face, not efectively being filtered through the mask. Same goes with the air you inhale, it is not being filtered, but drawn from arround the mask.

The only advice I can give you is that if you are serious about wearing a mask, buy a half mask with replaceable or fixed filters (don't really matter as you will never clog them with the use we are discussing here). They are expensive, they are heavier, they are uncomfortable if you wear them for long periods of time, and they ARE NOT COOL but if fitted correctly, they are airtight.

If you can handle bleach or amonia and not smell it while wearing the mask, then it is airtight and you are golden. each time you return home, clean the rubber bits with a rag soaked in bleach and let it dry.

Of course you should pair the use of mask with some glasses, to avoid someone sneezing on your eyes (which seems to be another way to get infected).

Overkill? Maybe. That's what I do and I feel quite comfortable with the system. Besides, I already wear those masks anytime I am at the shop messing arround with solvents, spray paint, heavy grinding, sandblasting or welding galvanized steel. I have two different models, one is CLIMAX (Spanish brand) and the other ones are from 3M (rated for chemicals, although basically any filter will work for this, even the lowest rating ones).
