MCUSTA, underrated?

Just got my first MCUSTA knife. I went with the Tactility with the Damascus blade and the quince wood handles. I love it! The opening is smooth as silk, handles are very sharp, the Damascus is sick and the blue anodized thumb stud and pivot screw are a real nice touch. The VG-10 is also razor sharp. It doesn't seem like I hear much about the company and was wondering if people have had bad experiences or are they just starting to make there way into the US market?

I had one for a few years. I loved it. Took a real sharp edge, held it pretty well, I had no complaints. Only sold it to finance other interests.

Glad you mentioned this. I have read several threads in posts in the past about this exact subject. So far, everytime I followed anything about this subject the Mcusta owners said the knife was amazing quality, with great fit and finish. I have been VERY tempted to get one myself but the only thing really holding me back was the only negative comment I ever heard about the Mcusta. The only downside mentioned was that for people with truly extra large hands the knife felt quite small. I am sure this is subjective since only the person holding it will know how it feels to them. I would appreciate your opinion and how large or small/thin the scales feel to you. I basically tend to go with large, beefy folders.

i have one in my collection, its a fine knife, but its more of a safe queen for me as i find it a little to fragile feeling

They make beautiful, high quality knives but many people on this forum are more focused on working knives, and I'd feel bad really beating on my Tactility. It could take it, but it's darn near too pretty to use.

I've always wanted one but i will say I've heard of problems with blade movement and centering. They truly are beautiful knives though.

There are other models that are not so small.

I have the Tsuchi(large) and it is definitely not too small.

As far as being under rated I agree 100 percent! I love mine, and it feels and looks like a custom. The details in the blade are amazing, and the fit and finish is great.

Only downside is the blade edge is a little too thin for my liking, but it is a gentlmans folder and not a hard use knife anyways.

If you don't have one you are missing out!

There isn't a nicer folder for $120 in my opinion!

I once owned an Mcusta Take with the damascus handles, and I quite liked it. It was absolutely beautiful, felt good in the hand, opened smoothly and easily, and the blade was excellent. However, it's not something I'd EDC. At least with the specimen I owned, the blade had a very slight amount of play, a pet peeve of mine (especially at its price point). The blade was also somewhat thick for its length and it didn't push through material as easily as I like for an EDC. However, as an occasional carry/dress knife/safe queen I can very highly recommend them.

Very beautiful knife, pictures simply don't do it justice.

I bought my brother a Mcusta Tactility for his graduation. I had never owned one myself but it looked beautiful and was in my price wheelhouse. I just handled it this weekend and the thing is jaw dropping. Razor sharp, (my brother does not sharpen so this was out of box), very nice feeling in the hand, deep carry clip, absolutely no blade play, and great f+f. I will be picking up one very soon.

I had a Kasumi

Definitely a gentleman's folder. It's a knife you can carry without people seeing it and feeling threatened. I am a big guy, so I tend to think this is important. On that note, my hands aren't enormous, but they're not small either, and while it is not a huge or hard use knife, I found it to be a very practical size with excellent fit and finish, and I never felt that I had to worry about using it.

EDIT:
After rereading posts, I thought I should mention that mine had absolutely no bladeplay

Interesting, not sure what you mean about blade movement (side to side, up and down blade play I imagine) but after opening and closing mine maybe 10 times it now opens very rough. Sounds and feels like metal on metal almost like the teflon washers are bad. I really like the knife but I am going to have to send it back. Everything else about the knife is top notch so this really stinks.

I have a clean tactility. In black micarta handles. (no Damascus).

It's the best tactical style knife I've handled. Everything about it is smooth and well executed. I'm gonna have to get me a Damascus version sometime.

This is mine. No blade play and sharpest knife I have ever bought. Smooth opening. The cocobolo handle is slightly slippery, but ergonomics are still very good.

I had both a Tactility (micarta) and a Yoroi once. I loved the Tactility...extremely smooth and well built. Perfect centering and no blade play. I felt it was underpriced compared to other folders in that price-range. I only sold it to finance other knives, but plan to pick up another early next year. The Yoroi was so smooth and reminded me of my Sebenza in terms of its action. But it didn't have a clip and it was too heavy and long to just drop in a pocket. And the carry case it came with wasn't my style. But sweet knife nonetheless.
