Mcusta...

Misque - Yeah, the Japanese sword restrictions do suck. Since they're swordsmiths through and through, I bet they find some way to get their kicks "under the table," so to speak. Tell us (well, me) more about the Katana! What color did you get?

Lavan - So... you kiss hard, eh? Um... are you free this weekend?

:D

Here is a pic(I hope it shows up here) that I "borrowed" from http://store.camping-cooking-supplies.com/mcusta.html

It's a little dark and the San-Mai line does not show up well in the pic either. :grumpy: The divots are a shiny purple and the bulk of the Aluminum handle is matte textured and blue in color. The tumbstuds do double duty and act as the blade stops too. The liner lock is not thick but is also not paper thin either and passes the spine whack test with ease. I was a bit surprised cuz I whacked(!) that suckah good!  The lock is stout enough to resist flexing when the blade is torqued up and down. This is kind of dangerous and I do not recommend trying this unless one is sure of the lock's strength.
The pocket clip is part of the steel liner that also comprises the liner lock itself. It's integral part of that steel liner and is folded over and milled. No screws to loosen but there's also no removing it and replacing it either. Being constructed this way allows for a deep pocket carry of the folder.

The blade on mine is a bit dark from the etching procedure. It does make that San-Mai separation line where the VG-10 comes thru really stand out. I think it gives the distinct impression that your looking at a hamon. For a plain ol' clad blade it sure looks good to me. :)
The VG-10 blade is a born cutter. I've had it out pruning the rose garden yesterday and cutting Mulberry suckers and those tenacious Camphor tree saplings which seem to sprout up by the dozens every week it seems. I'm not kidding. Every week there are literally dozens of new sprouts and it seems like a year round thing here. :grumpy: I also used it in the kitchen today doing some garlic filleting and pepperoni slicing. :D

This is a really decent EDC if you don't mind a 3.25" blade length. It's taking a little getting used to because I normally carry a 3.75"-4" blade for EDC.

Thanks for the mini-review! I've actually come to regard 3-3.5 inches as my ideal blade length, so the Katana might be great... I've got that Quincewood Basic reserved, but I'm afraid that, being in the good ol' NYC area it might not be too conducive to good relations with local law enforcement. 3.25 inch blade, but it just somehow looks bigger.

The clip is kind of cool... I really like deep pocket carry, so that's a plus.

Hmm.... Katana.... must...resist...urge...to...buy...

Having heard nothing but good things about the Mcustas so far, I've ordered the Mcusta M33-D Take (plus a couple of other knives, all on backorder 1-2 weeks though) from that yahoo store but just found it slightly cheaper (before shipping) here. The yahoo store did quote me the same fixed shipping cost for all 3 knives though.

Can't wait to get them. :)
