I guess that title should read: Leather and I....
Anyway, My company gave us each a $50.00 gift certificate to L.L. Bean for Christmas this year. After looking through item after item of overpriced stuff I really don't need, I decided to check out their knives. They mostly carry the run of the mill stuff-again, very overpriced. I finally settled on this "Classic Trout Knife" with a leather sheath.
Well, it arrived today. The knife wasn't in the sheath, it was wrapped separately. The sheath was squashed to about as flat as you could get it. Well, I was doing ten things at once as ususal, so after giving the knife and sheath a quick once over, I slid the knife into the sheath, strapped it on my belt and headed back outside to finish working on my plow (which broke in two places today!) At one point, the opportunity to cut some rope came up, and I used my sharp new (though somewhat crude) little knife. It sliced through with zero effort. As I was resheathing the knife, something didn't feel quite right. Sure as hell, I pushed the tip of the knife right through the side of the sheath.
Well, that was just about enough for me today. I headed to my shop and in about 20 minutes whipped out this sturdy orange kxdex sheath for it. I mounted a small Tek-Lok at a slightly forward cant, and made a small drain hole in the bottom. I also added a lanyard hole and lanyard to the knife, and touched up the edge a little bit. Pretty good trout fishing rig now. This one sure won't get lost if I lay it down in the grass. I gotta get some orange paracord for lanyards too. That way if the knife and sheath become separated, It'll still be easy to find.
I really do love the look and feel of leather, but I've ruined so many leather sheaths, I can't keep track of them anymore. I'm just "hard on the riggin" I guess.
Thanks for looking.
