Yes, kniv, like der Sveedish;)

OK so I want to learn some bushcraft, been watching a lot of Youtube vids from Ray Mears and others. I bought two Mora's, a 511 and a Craftline All Around to start getting used to the Scandi grind. But, I want a true to the bone hardcore bushcraft knife too with a wood handle and full tang like the Woodlore knife that has a 10+ year wait list.

Considering these, open to others:

-Spyderco Bushcraft

-Krein Bushcraft XL

-Koster Bushcraft

-BRK custom handle Fallkniven F1

-Genuine Scandi knife from Ragweedforge... tons of options!

HELP!

If you want a good bushcraft knife and great kydex sheath look into a ESEE-4 great full tang, 3/16 in thick and a overall good survival or bushcraft length of a little over 4 inches, sorry micarta handle no wood. ESEE warranty is also the best I have known. look into it you wont be disapointed.

The Spyderco Bushcraft seconds that are being clearanced for $90 with leather sheath are quite good if you can tolerate some cracks in the wood. Depending on the humidity levels where you are, the cracks might even close up on their own. I live in a pretty dry area, so I had to fill a couple with superglue, but the scales on mine were still pretty solid even when cracked.

Out of the choices listed I like the Fallkniven. My current favorite that goes along on my hikes right now is a Helle Harding. Ragweed has some blanks I believe. Good luck

Gorgeous handle! I may just buy one completed from Ragweed they're not too pricey..

The value of a Spyderco Bushcraft is amazing. For $90, you get some great steel (O-1) and some terrific ergonomics, and a sweet leather sheath. You cannot really find a better deal. I ended up getting 2.:)

i'd go with the Fallkniven F1 from that list.

you can get an F1 blank for less than US$80 and put whatever handle you like on it.

Yeah there's a good chance I'll be getting it in addition to another Bushcraft knife just cause it's a Spyderco. Plus, it's a hollow grind where most Scandi's are flat. Not sure if that's good or bad.

Yeah but same problem as getting a Scandi blank from Ragweedforge, I don't know how to make a handle.

A true Bushcraft has a Scandi grind. While well made, the Krein and Fallkniven F1 aren't Scandi grinds. I have a Koster, and the knife is really nice and well worth the price. Extremely sharp, good jimping, very comfortable to use and excellent fit and finish. That would be my choice.

I'm not sure where you got that idea, but the two I bought are standard flat-bevel Scandi grind.

Agreed. I just put those up there for competition sake, but I'm pretty damn sure I'll get a true Scandi. Tom does offer the Bushcraft in Scandi though. The F1 I've heard great things about, but I'm afraid that it's just a glorified BRK.

Good to know! I don't remember where I read it either, thought it was the Spyderco catalogue... and some pictures make it look hollow-saber grind like.

If you're willing to spend big money and are willing to buy without handling it first perhaps consider the Bushcraft Northwest Blade as well: http://www.shop.bushcraftnorthwest.com/product.sc?productId=27&categoryId=2

For my first one I think I'm going to get a complete knife, thanks for the links.

I would go with the Charles May, I had one before and like a fool gave it up because I did not care much for scandi grinds at the time.

You might take a look at the knifemaker's for sale section. John Landi has made a few 1095 convex ground bushcraft that are quite nice- worth a look. Good all around blade, makes a nice kitchen utility knife as well.

here's a few other choices to throw into the mix...:D

Bushcraft Northwest BCNW-01... awesome knife... it's essentially a beefed up Mora and Blindhorseknives "boat tail scandi"..

Fiddleback Forge Terrasaur... sheath made by me.. Andy also makes a really nice bushcrafter too...

This thread has the making of a very nice catalog! "Get one of each" and then buy the Barkie F1.

On the list and what you are describing that Spyderco blem is probably a good way to start but the only one to tempt me anymore would be the Snookum.

My favorite is one of mtnfolk mikes, the Bushcraft Northwest BCNW-01. After using it for more than a year I decided, for me, it was a a keeper and sold off...
