I was on R. Mears site, and was looking at his knife. There was no price indicated. Does anyone here know what the price is?

I was on that site yesterday. It doesn't give a price, just an indication that the waiting list for one is approx 10 years.

Didnt notice the wait period. I didnt want one anyway, but was curious as to the cost.

Yeah. A ten year waiting list.:jerkit:
Get one of the members here to build you one.

If I recall correctly they were £270 GBP a year ago. When Alan Wood started punting them they were £150ish GBP. They keep jumping up in price as more disciples swarm round the cult.

found one on ebay for about 950USD. i've long since given up getting a ray mears knife and am looking into a bushcraft northwest knife by mike lumio or a skookum bushtool. :)

I think there is nothing more lame than getting some knife of a famous guy. You look like the worlds biggest poser IMO. Way more special to learn what knife works for you through experience. There is no perfect knife knife, just the perfect knife for you.

Besides, there are so many very talented knife makers on this forum that have years of experience, and just don't have the commercial aspect down like our good friend mr mears. I think you not only get a knife that will equal that of mears, but it will be much more unique and custom to you.

I think Ray has been sort of drug into the business. He produces, and has made great kit, but have you EVER seen an advertisement for it? Have you seen one for Bear Grylls.

I love Ray's stuff and he has taught me a ton. Is the knife 'worth' that kind of money considering the other makers - nope - but damned capitalism seems to determine that price when you have that kind of demand.

Think of the money Alan Wood could of had if he had the foresight and spent the money to have an international patent for the "Woodlore" made.

There were Scandi grind " bushcraft" knives around long before Wood was born.
The Brits just started another cult.
I'll bet Ray just shakes his head when all the wannabeez get on the long list for these and run around searching for backpacks that should come with a lifetime pass to a chiropractic clinic.

i understand the first bit you wrote, even agree with it to a certain extent.

what are you exactly asserting about backpacks?

DANG!!!! ANY I get a hard time from guys:D:D

WOW - seems like they could mass produce some of the parts somehow.

That people buy backpacks that look "authentic" instead of buying an ergonomic one?

i think some of the back packs that he endorses are alright, usually though they are way above the sticker price on his website. I've used "authentic" frameless packs for a while with no problems (they weren't ones sold by Mears). I was looking into leather belt pouches for a while and found that the one Ray had on his website was what i was looking for, except 100CAD plus shipping and taxes wasnt quite worth it. I found a local leather crafter who made something similar for about a third of the price :)
