This .250 inch thick, heavy-duty meat cleaver was hand forged from W-2, high carbon steel. The face of the blade is 6 inches long. It was hand ground by Andy Alm and heat treated professionally by Peters' Heat Treat. The blade was differentially quenched using clay, producing a faint hamon line along the grind. Not only is this cleaver aesthetically pleasing, it was made for superior functionality.
I stabilized some locally grown, reclaimed (from firewood), spalted maple for the handle. The pins are mild stainless steel, and the wood is finished with food grade safe, caranabua wax.
This hog splitter was made entirely local, in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, USA. For sale at: https://www.etsy.com/listing/263768164/meat-cleaver-25-pound-w2-high-carbon?ref=shop_home_active_1 or by private message to heirloomcraftsman@gmail.com
