Mechforce Alphahunter Apocalypse and Piratech Kraken 2024

I may be misremembering, but I believe Piratech is actually the product of several employees from Kizer leaving and starting their own gig. Not sure about the mechforce, but the Kraken seems to be the real deal. I don't have one myself, but they vanish pretty fast on the secondary market, and that tells you a lot about a knife.

The magnet system is interesting for the clean, no hardware look. However, I prefer knives that use a mortise and tenon or spring lock system to achieve the same look, like on the Rike Cybertrix or Lamella.

Mechforce is more of a gun accessory company that's trying to get into EDC gear. I know them from the flashlight hobby since they came out with a titanium EDC light with complicated machining that's been really well-received. It seems that they have some solid designs and contract out to manufacturing specialists in China, which I'm guessing is what they did with this knife.

I can't recall who did it, but I saw a review a while back on it. The guy said they were pretty solid. He dropped it on the floor a few times and they stayed put. The tolerances between the scales and the frame are pretty tight, so they don't really move unless you actually pull on them. I was interested in picking one up when they first dropped, but my magpie brain got distracted by something else that was shiny.
I totally understand getting distracted by another shiny good looking thing

That was for the crickets. Communicated with White Mountain today, they are expecting more Krakens soon.

Thanks for the info

Thanks you for your deep and profound input. This certainly answered my question, and made clear to me why this forum is highly recommended as a place to receive valuable infromation on the subject of quality knives, and manufacturers. My goal of learning more about these designers has certainly been met
You’re welcome.

Karen.
It was a joke in a thread nobody was replying to. I was just giving you a BTT.
The Piratech is legit; there are lots of reviews if you search. The other knife…not so much.

A point of concern for me is the strength of the Piratech magnets. Those go way beyond a Winterblade lock. I don’t want them in my pocket anywhere near a cc. Probably wouldn’t bother a chip but they could tear up a strip.

…or a thumb drive.

DLT Trading carries Mechforce knives, they don't have that particular model in stock at the moment.
But you can reach out to them with questions you may have. DLT is a supporting dealer, and their customer service is excellent.

I had a bunch of questions when I was shopping for my Hinderer XM18, they took the time to answer my emails and explain the pros / cons of every variation.

Also, you can sign up for email notifications with alerts when a knife comes back into stock.

Thanks Ill check them out

Knifecenter was showing off the Mechforce in their video yesterday. Not my cup of tea but seems well built.

I have a Mechforce mid-tech collaboration with Graham Knives(ringed rhino). It is very well built and comparable to my recent Sebenza in fit & finish; a step up from any of my Benchmades or Spydercos.. Knifecenter shows them in stock.

I went ahead and bought one from the latest drop. After I've used it for a while, I'll post some observations.

The idea behind the magnets isn't so much as to eliminate hardware to create a clean look, it's to make scale swapping easy. They are going for the TRM market with multiple style scales that can be swapped out at will. The filler tab and clip are passively held in place due to machining inside the scales, so no hardware anywhere in the knife except for the pivot and sliding bar lock and internal pieces connecting the skeletonized, nested liners. You can even change the omega springs without a Torx driver.

It's enough of an innovation that I had to check it out in person.

Sounds pretty unique. I'm still curious about whether the magnets have an adverse effect on cell phones etc, and the strength of the connection while being used. Looking forward to your later posts. Congrats on getting hold of one
