I bought a used Gigantes last year and did EDC for two months with it... 11 ounces, 5" blade, 5/8" thick. I'm a big guy and wear a heavier belt so my pants stayed up. Most of my pants have knife sized side pockets, using your regular front pocket wouldn't work. The weight wasn't too bad and in use - the weight made cutting even easier, really everything became butter. It's really nice in the hand.
They are well made and black and black PVD is relatively low key for such a show-off knife. The deployment makes a loud "thunk" that's a lot of fun and you wouldn't get from a lighter knife. It definitely wins any knife games at the BBQ.
After a couple months I sold it for what I paid for it. It was a fun experience but I figured I should unload it before I lost the resale value.
I usually carry 3" blades and they seem like nothing now. I would consider a 4" Gigantes type as a good large EDC.
My politics are to the right of Greg's on most things, he needs to toughen up.
