Photos Medford Knife and Tool 🇺🇸

Anyone jumping in on Greg's "Black Card" investment program? I find it refreshing to hear him talk about the state of his company, and think it is a pretty cool idea of raising capital. The idea of a "main street" line of USA made knives for around $200 sounds pretty awesome.

A run of 250 unique knives, never to be made again is pretty enticing as well.

Not me. I think I would jump in if he would actually reveal the design and I could see if it was something I would like. Even a rough drawing or something would go a long way. I love a lot of his designs. But by no means all of them. He’s had his share of stinkers too IMO. $1000 is a lot to plunk down blindly for an unknown design. I don’t ever look at knives as investments. So I am not buying the “you could probably sell it for more later” rationale that even he seems to be pushing out one side of his mouth, while agreeing with me (they are not investments) out of the other. Besides, resale value also depends on the desirability of the design. Ugly, undesired knives are still ugly and undesired even if limited in number.

I also don’t know what keeping the design secret adds to his process? He seems to have the design already in mind. I recall in one of the videos he gave a few vague words of description. Something about a big gentlemen’s style IIRC? Maybe he is banking on people wanting the thrill of a surprise.

I hope you've heard of Kickstarter.

TTRPGs use it all the time.

[Table Top Role Playing Games.]

[Dungeons & Dragons, e.g. et al.]

I've seen TTRPG's reach a million dollars in sales before anyone has even seen the product, let alone read a word!

Marketing.

It can be fun. A mysterious strategy, by a known creator.

I know clever marketing when I see.

Greg has my attention and interest.

Counterfeiters must be frustrated by Greg and that amuses me a bit, too.

But does he have your money? Did you buy the black card? Doesn't sound like it. Me neither.

He has my attention and interest too. Hence the fact that we are discussing it. But my curiosity isn’t going to fund his projects. Clever marketing is only as successful as the money it actually generates. He didn’t get mine and I am quite certain I qualify as a fan and collector.

Given Greg’s controversial, though not entirely unreasonable, stance on Chinese-made knives, I’m assuming he’s keeping the designs a secret until the last minute so they can’t be stolen and released in a chintzier version at a fraction of the price.

Yes I’m sure that is among the reasons.

I was interested in the black card program but I was also unsure about the "mystery" knife. I know he said a gentleman's knife, but from what I've seen of other gentleman's knives I know that they're for me. I am interested to the Trump knives that are dropping today.

I had been excited for the newly redesigned TFF-4 that Medford had promised some time ago. And then I saw it … and promptly set about acquiring an older version instead. Hate those little overlays they’ve been doing, and no thank you on the bearings.IMG_7218.jpeg
