Let me begin by apologizing if I'm posting this in the wrong section. Moderators, please redirect if that is the case. Anyway, I recently received my first Medford knife, a Praetorian, and I can't put it down. That's not the point of my story though. Within the pelican case that comes with the knife, is a business card, similar to a Chris Reeves birth certificate, with Greg Medfords cell number. Thinking it was a gimmick, as I often do, I text the number saying what a badass knife it was and how happy I was with it. Within three minutes, I receive a phone call from Greg with his daughter in the car, while out for a Sunday stroll. I was shocked at how cool and "regular" a guy he was. We spoke for several minutes after that.

Love his knives or hate them, their customer is service is nothing short of amazing. We text back and forth until close to midnight as he helped me order my next purchase. It's not often that a company goes out of their way to ensure that a customer is 100% happy, but these guys do!! I had to share this because I've never had an experience like this with any company.

Okaaaaayyy.....

What are you going to use the knife for?

Please report back, when you have carried and used the knife for some months.

Mostly for hiking and camping. It's massive, so I placed an order for a micro praetorian for more daily edc. Although, it's amazing just how well the full size rides in my pocket...

A Medford Praetorian for hiking and camping?

How can I put this in a diplomatic way................; it might not be the best choice for that. There might be other knives more suitable for that.

Good luck making feather sticks.

I think the OP intends to use it for limbing and splitting trees.

Because all you have to do is point it at the offending piece of timber, and it will be scared into kindling-sized pieces!

Edit: it could work, if you're very good. The knife certainly has enough weight behind it. I suppose if you got the angle just right, you could "chop" it a short ways into the wood, and feather it that way.

I shouldn't stir up trouble like this... I'll drink my coffee, and wait for photos and review of the Praetorian's performance as a camp knife.

Right:p

I look forward to a report after some camping trips as well.

Gentlemen, my intentions were, and are, to inform any interested parties about an incredible experience with a knife maker. Nothing more, nothing less... Do with it what you want, but in this day and age of answering machines and digital answering services, it's nice to know that you can pick up the phone and actually speak to a "real" person who is knowledgeable and can guide you through your decision making. If that "real" person happens to be the knife maker, the experience is much better.

I'll deviate from the pack and agree that is great customer service. Also if you want to use a Praetorian for camping and hiking, more power to you. It may not be the best knife for the job but that doesn't mean it won't work. Don't let these guys get you down.

I have to agree with you. I did the same thing when I got my Medford. I called him to let him know how much I love the product. Within minutes Greg called me back.

Greg is a cool guy, this would be great placed under the feedback forum. Glad to here you are happy with your purchase and the company.

Glad you had such a positive experience. I wish I could say my own experience was the same (and no, I won't go into what happened) but at least someone else was pleased. Enjoy the knife.

As far as his knives go I owned one and well it was put together well it just didnt do want I want a knife to do. But I will say this the guy does customer service well. I called about a issue he answered the phone and talked me through it. For a bigger knife company thats pretty impressive.

Greg Medford had some controversy surrounding him early on, but that seems to have been cleared up. He has made a successful business out of selling knife-like objects and I wish him success in the future.

I would never own one, but to each their own.

I'll move this to FEEDBACK, since that's where we discuss deals and dealers.

General Knife Discussion is more for the knives themselves, which is why some posters gave their opinions on its use.

I like big knives myself. I don't whittle with it, but I can clear a trail with a Vaquero Grande. :)
