Hi everyone! I'm thinking about adding one of these to my collection. For those that have one, is there any real reason I shouldn't? Likes or dislikes? If this has been asked, I'm sorry, I did a quick search and didn't see much. Thanks!

I imagine the micro version will be like all the other versions: dumb, overbuilt, and COMPLETELY AMERICAN. You will love it. I have a full-size Praetorian, it's amazing. Plus Medford is a company that employs veterans, which is fantastic.

The Micro Praetorian is very cute. Mine was beautifully put together and definitely not too big to be an EDC: https://instagram.com/p/1_1ljRR9WL/?taken-by=brancron

If you have the money to spare (and you should be honest with yourself on this point) and you like the design, then go for it!

The one thing I'd mention as a word of warning is that the blade stock is very, very thick, so it's never going to be the best slicer in the world, but it still works.

The Praetorian gets a lot of flack (and so does Greg Medford--he probably deserves it) from people who say things like "an 8 dollar opinel could slice better," etc. But most people here know (or need to admit) that there's a lot more to knives than just pure cutting ability.

I haven't had a micro version but I've had a couple of the standard size Praetorian T's with the 3/16" stock. The ONLY real complaint I had was that disassembly voids the warranty. Other issues I had were more personal preference than that but the inability to take apart my knife was the bigger deal breaker.

The knives themselves are solid, overbuilt, and have a great look. If you know what you want and aren't expecting an Opinel level slicer like bancron said you'll be happy with your purchase.

Cutting performance aside, because disassembling your own knife will void the warranty behind a knife marketed as the end-all-be-all absolute tank of a knife, I would never feel comfortable owning it. Shoot, not being able to take care of your own knife means you don't own it, you're just renting it for a one time fee of $600

It seems ridiculous to me (if I'm wrong someone fill me in!). Compare Medford's warranty provision re. disassembly to that of Spyderco:

Medford: "Disassembly or modifications to finishes voids all warranties expressed or implied."

Spyderco: "Spyderco’s warranty does not cover damage caused by...disassembly, or improper sharpening." (Emphasis added.)

as much as medfords arent my thing ( as you know ;) ) I do have to admit that the vast majority of everyone I talk to that owns them is extremely satisfied. And I do like the business model of hiring vets.

Not a micro. But here's my take on the full size before the thread went south.

I have some reservations with it. Biggest one for me is disassembly voids warranty. It really is a great knife that does cut well, could be used to pry the door off of a car, and takes a great edge pretty easy.

Try one out. If you don't like it, there's plenty of people on the exchange that would buy it.

LOL True.

I will say that I think the Praetorians get flack because they aren't great slicers. Yes, that's true, I don't have an issue with that observation. I will just say that when you hold one in your hand, it makes you want to beat on something. It's just a big slab of knife. Love mine to death:

Also, they are quite dainty :D :

Anyone have a picture of the paper that comes with these knives with all the "don'ts" on it? I caught a glimpse in a YouTube video, it was saying not to apply any oil/lubricant, really it said not to do anything at all to the knife. I'd like to read through the whole page.

I want to offer a different perspective on the "opening them up voids the warranty" debate.

Isn't it nice to be able to own a knife that is so well put together you never need to take it apart to "fix" it? That's the takeaway for the consumer, and I personally think its great. Now if you love to tinker with your knives, that may not suit you, but I've only ever had to take apart knives in order to address an issue. I own two Medfords and love the fact I've never had to open them up to remedy a problem.

I do not expect to have any reason whatsoever to take my Micro P apart. After week of moderate usage and a lot of idle one handed opening and closing, it broke in beautifully. It has that precise "snick-snick" action of a match pistol or direct linkage manual transmission. If you nick yourself on the edge you'll probably not feel it (at least that was my experience). I cut through over a 150 linear feet of brown cardboard shipping boxes and it still sliced magazine paper. After a stropping on the backing of a legal pad it sliced phone book paper (sh!t are those things still around???). There is no lock stick, blade play or grittiness in the pivot and it hasn't been oiled at all, per Medford instructions. It is a "micro" in terms of blade length and overall size but it punches way above it's weight IMO. Carrying it either in pocket or IWB is cake. Based on that experience I acquired a Praetorian T, which because of size and weight is pretty much a personal luxury item I use as a desk ornament to piss off liberals. I would jump at the chance at a full Titanium Micro in addition to my G-10. Just my $.02, YMMV.

Based on this review, my kneejerk reaction to Medford knives was challenged and I bought a Praetorian-G on the exchange. I have it in my pocket right now. Great knife, certainly heavy-duty build, but that is what I wanted. It carries easily, cuts well (not a thin slicy type blade like the Spydie in my other pocket) but a true hard-use working knife. It was broken in when I bought it, but opens and closes very smoothly, solid lockup, sharp, sturdy blade. If the micro is just a smaller version, I see no reason not to go for one (if it fits your budget) if that is what you are looking for.

LOL Right? :D

Actually, apparently this was Blade specific anodyzing. When I was told that, it swung me to this one instead of the stonewash/Olive scale model I'd initially looked at. They had pretty much every possible model available at their booth, it was amazing.

That's a great looking praetorian!

Thank you, brother. Your thread was THE reason I got one. Remember? I said I was going to do it, and once I held this one in hand, I had to have it. I'm actually carrying it today in fact.

One last bit of information for anyone considering a Praetorian, the weight difference between my spearpoint, and Gizler's tanto shape is noticeable. I held one of each in each hand and the tanto is noticeably heavier, due to there being more "meat" at the top. I love them both. Not sure if that would be the case for the smaller versions, but on the fullsize, it's there.
