I purchased this dagger from Sam Rutherford, the resident blacksmith at a Viking cultural center in California. This is his description of the knife:

"I forged this knife in a propane forge, using hammer-and-tong techniques to draw it out of a bar of 1084 high-carbon steel. Overall length is 16 inches.
The guard and buttcap were also slit and forged by me, out of mild steel. The tang is mushroomed over the buttcap to lock the assembly together.
The handle is Burmese blackwood, with leather washers interspersed for looks and to protect the wood.
"

Asking for $135 with free shipping.
