Battle Mace. Nasty things. Cool to play with.

I've seen the following names: Morning Star, Mace and Chain, Flail, and Holy Water Sprinkler. It was especially effective against plate armor. A blow could crush thje bones inside, even without penetrating the plate. A nasty item, but then what weapon isn't?

My understanding is that the Morning Star(MorgenStern) is a spiked ball mace head on a short chain and handle.
The "holly Water" sprinkler is a Tubular spiked flail either as the end of a staff or on a chain attached to a staff. The Key differences are the length of the hadle and the shape of the impact instrument. for those who might be interested.

Cheers,

And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold the great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads...And His tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth; and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

ohoisin... FYI, morgen stern is German for morning star, its one of our family names.

By all means look at the Museum Replicas catalog; they have some good pictures, but don't buy anything from them.... Only a few years ago they were a good place to buy from, but not any more.
www.netsword.com is a UBB forum like this one; you'll feel right at home and the members are very knowledgeable and friendly.

When you see a morning star on the wall at the restaurant with "ambiance" and it looks like it weighs about thirty pounds (15kg) and you wonder how anybody could possibly use that clumsy thing as a weapon ... nobody could use it as a weapon; it's a wall ornament. The real ones were much lighter.

Actually, I believe the name is "Morrigan"- the triple goddess of death and battle, along with her sisters Bodbh and Macha.
Her name comes from the gaelic words *Mor Riagan* which means "Great queen".
"Morrigan" is pronounced "More Ree-an", but most people just prounounce it how it looks.
