My first Case in Mediterranean blue as seen here before, a Tiny Trapper:

The above photograph, while dark, displays the color as it most often looks in day-to-day lighting.

The subtle depth of the blue is hard for me to capture with my limited photo skillz. Without adding any effects, here are two pictures of the same knives in increasingly direct light. Sometimes the blue does "pop" like this, but without looking as garish as it does in the pictures:

Yes, I now have a peanut. I was thrilled to find one in mediterranean blue without a billboard.

The long pull and the swedge pushed me over. Special thanks to FuriousPace for posting his Peanuts. Heh. His pictures were very helpful.

What a sweet little knife! Here it is with its companion, amber with wharncliffe:

(It's been a very good new knife season; Happy Mother's Day to me! :))

P, That blue is a good looking color and that peanut is especially nice with that nice long pull and swedge. Congrats and happy mother's day!

the smooth MedBlues look great, i wonder if it is possible to polish off the billboard off of the labeled ones?

I agree (the smooth blue is my favorite), and asked the same thing here.

Mr. OwE answered thus:

I'm betting the 'white' is undyed bone (maybe bleached, before the blue dying process). I'm assuming Case used some sort of mask to prevent the blue dye from penetrating there. If so, I'd bet sanding would likely affect the blue portions more (maybe fade it, depending on how deep the dye went). If you wanted it all blue, I think you'd have to re-dye the whole thing. I've never done that, so I have no idea how well that would work. If the bone is polished or coated, I'd assume some sanding before re-dying would help the dye penetrate.

I've never seen one of the Billboard Blues in person to even begin to verify the above, but reading that gave me enough pause to not pursue it further. I'd be very up having for someone else attempting it and reporting back, however. ;)

hmmm... i assumed it was laser etched with as crisp as the lines are for things like the trademark "®" on the image. ive never seen one in person so i cant tell.

Well, what should I add, P? ;) Really a great looking set of three beautiful knives... I likem em all. Especially the wharnie on the Tiny Trapper looks really great. :)

Kind regards
Andi

Thanks!

On the Tiny Trapper, I consider the wharncliffe blade to be the "main," due to its easier access (pinch open), balance, and usefulness. It's a great little piece.

P, Thanks for the transformative ascension to the divine world of blue-emanation

For me, blue isn't a color but a way of life, so finding the "right" blue on knives in some of my preferred patterns and size range is a happy thing, indeed. I'm not sure how far the transformation will extend, but it sure makes for a good day right now.

They look great P!!

Thanks! I was relieved as I was pleased, to have them in-hand for the first time. As per the above, I wish Case would make more unadorned mediterranean blue, but I'm glad to have found these.

Those are sweet! I'll second the admiration of the Peanut, that looks great, and I like the mini Copperhead with the clip too.

I have a blue Peanut (BSA) and a blue mini Copperhead (wharnie). now I want the Mediterranean versions too!

P....i think the mini copperhead in blue is a beautiful looking knife...lovely lines on that one.............................FES

Hey P,
thanks for posting those pictures, I don't know if it's due to the fact I was born and raised here, but the Mediterranean blue looks great to me :)

The med blue makes for a beautiful scale. Wish Case offered some with cv steel to go along with.

Ohhh, that would be nice. I mean, I'd be happy if Case would even just offer an amber peanut with CV again, but mediterranean blue would fine indeed!

It's certainly an interesting design, especially the swoopy angle of the pen blade:

I'm liking this pattern a lot.

The spring on the blue/clip knife is much stiffer than that on the amber wharncliffe, leading to a little blade rub when opening its pen blade (you can see a bit of scuff on the middle back of the clip blade). The wharncliffe pen can rub sometimes, but not to the same degree. The blades also fit in the frame and against one another slightly differently between the two, though maybe that's a manufacturing variation as opposed to a consistent difference between Mini Copperheads with the different mains. I haven't decided which main blade I'm more partial to using yet (the wharncliffe wins in the looks dept.). Using the pen blade on the clip knife is slightly more comfortable due to the clip's lower profile in the handle.

Those are sweet! I'll second the admiration of the Peanut, that looks great, and I like the mini Copperhead with the clip too.

Thanks! I'm still not sure about this Peanut business, ie, why the Peanut gets proportionally more press than other small two-bladed knives. This one is nice, but so far I prefer the mini copperheads.

Part of that may be due to the stiffness and sharp edges of this Peanut's blades. I enjoy the Peanut once it's either open or closed, but getting there can be a challenge, or at least a task requiring more attentiveness than with other knives. For one thing, the half-stop seems unnecessary in a knife this size, and more difficult with the little, tight-springed, sharp-all-kinds-of-ways blades. I love the swedge and long pull, but the edges of these features feel slightly unfinished, with poky edges at the angles.

The satin finish-- another nice touch-- is nothing near the silky smoothness of my White Owl:

7203139494_f1ed181686_z.jpg

Not that I expected the Peanut to be finished to that degree? But it feels a little rough all around-- precision-cut, but rough.

(Also? The blades of both the Peanut and the Mini Copperhead arrived toothier than a saw on a GEC Lumberjack. Heh.)

Anyway, I like them both, will soften out some of the non-edge sharpness and surface raspiness, and look forward to discovering which I prefer long-term. Y'know, after I actually use the things. ;)

Thanks for looking. :-)

Beautiful little knives P, that is a nice collection of blue ones. I like them a lot even though I don't own a single one. MOF when my girlfriend asked me to pick out a smallish knife for her stepfather's birthday I decided on a mini copperhead but not in blue... although seeing those pics I might have chosen that color if I had a Mulligan. :)

It should be in this week and I'll have to sharpen it before she relays it to her stepdad. Hope it is as nice as yours is.

Nice looking set of blue knives Perinux:thumbup:
Now I need to find a Mini Copperhead:cool: to gift my wife for her growing blue knife collection! I wonder if they made one with a Warnlcliff in Blue?
As for the peanut...when she first inspected it the "pokey edges" you mentioned were pointed out to me..."fix this, this, and this" was her reply ;)
A few passes on the buffer and no more "pokey edges" :)

If your wife already knows she likes 'em blue, you can't miss with the Mini Copperhead-- it's a great pattern.

Now, what is this "buffer" of which you speak...?

Then, this happened:

The new mini's scales are lighter, and were lighter yet when they first arrived; my Sharpie Spa treatment comes through yet again, leading to a pleasing outcome.
