Here is one of my scagel pattern {the base pattern was from Jerry Eizenga's book} 3 5/8" folders in 440c stainless steel decked out with a handsanded finish, and green canvas micarta scales with stainless liners, shadow pivot and pins. this one is a nice solid medium size medium use utility knife, for daily cutting uses such as opening mail, trimming fingernails, peeling an apple, opening dog food bags, cutting cardboard, ect....

OAL open- 6 3/8" 3 5/8" closed

blade- 2 3/4" long tip to scales, .092" thick at the spine, .050" measured 1/4" behind the edge, and .008" thick at the shoulder of the edge. 9/16" wide

steel- 440c stainless steel, oil quenched and triple tempered, for a really nice performing blade that takes and holds a great edge and yet is easy to resharpen!

grind- a full flat grind, sharpened on a DMT 325 diamond hone with micro bevels, to an aggressive razor edge

finish- 400 grit handsanded finish

handle- green canvas micarta, stainless liners

weight - 2.0 ounces

half stop

milled inside the scales so the blade doesnt get scratched

tip is pretty centered, flush in all 3 positions, nice walk and talk, opens a hair harder than a victorinox tinker large blade, and still comfortable with the thumbnail

You requested feedback. Nice knife. Excellent price. However, I don’t see the Scagel connection. It has a nail nick, not a hole, its covers are synthetic not stag or antler, the pivot pin is not the simple rod, it’s stainless steel and where’s the silver arrowhead? :)

It’s a sweet knife and will make someone proud and happy!

thanks for the kind words brownshoe!

the book I got the pattern from, how to design and make your own folders by jerry eizenga, the main pattern that he puts in there across the top of the page he calls it a "scagel style slip joint folder", that is the basic pattern I used to make my template, so thats what I called it.
