Medium Sized "Camp Knife"?

Congrats!! Barkies ARE excellent knives. Thanks for letting us know what you decided to get. What handle material did you get?

If I had known how close you were to getting the Highland, I would have mentioned the Twisted Wire Fibermascus ($93), the Black Carbon Fiber (about $112), the Red Linen Micarta !! (about $105 I think), and the Green Canvas Micarta (About $110).

You're going to like this knife regardless of which scales you ordered! If you don;t know how to sharpen and strop a convex grind, you will soon ! (((:D)))

The Highland has bumped my mini-Skinners, mini-Canadain, and my Bravo-1 all down one notch to become my favorite Barkie so far.

That's quite an endorsement, since your fondness for the Mini Canadian is nearly as fanatical as my own. It's good to know that the latest crop has decent sheaths. I will probably get a Highland soon, but I am holding off on knife buying because I will have the opportunity to visit what I am told is a good cutlery/knife store in VA later this month while on a trip. I'd like to examine their wares before making a final decision.

I know you don;t like big knives, Foilist, so I'm thinking the Highland Special (yes, you were right, the complete name includes "Special") is going to fit your bill perfectly. If you find the blade a tad too long (3-5/8" cutting length), then trust in the mini-SKinner.

Also, I'm fixing to send a sheath to you for your mini-Canadian. I made a new one for my little girl and have an extra.

Excellent choice... what handle material did you get?
For practicality, I decided to go with the orange G-10 handles:

Note as pretty as some of the other handle materials, but having hunted through the grass and leaves of the forest floor for a dark-handled knife in the past, I liked the "high-visibility" of the orange. :D
