medium to heavy-duty knife, recommendations please

Hmmmm. I already cleared things with customs, as long as i keep transportation of the knives according to law there should be no problem, not even for bigger knives. It all depends on how they are packaged: they should not be 'ready for grabs' so i am gonna wrap them in bubblefoam and Ducttape. No problem, according to the Customs.
The general purpose knife is gonna be a Extrema Ratio Harpoon F with different handle and added serrations (can't wait till that puppy arrives... i will post pics, if you are interested... i have the idea it is not such a popular knife on this forum, just a hunch).
The general purpose should indeed be more 'machete' but i am already running into trouble on some... The Ontario has a deliverytime of over 18 months over here, so not an option. Swamprat (i would go for the Battle Rat)? Sold out, i would be in queue. Not an option. Becker huge handles.... DAMN. Anymore suggestions, fellow bladelovers? They keywords are big and strong, and preferably not too large handle. weight is not too much of a factor. I will look into the given suggestions. Thank you all.

Sorry about that misser: i ofcourse meant the ' larger knife' . Machetes will be provided for if need be, but i am still considering bringing my own.

Swamp Rat sounds like a good choice... personally, I would avoid the Ka-bar, not because they lack quality, but because I prefer a thicker knife for chopping

Yeah, i have been looking into SwampRat... I like the looks of the Battle Rat. But they, like Ontario, have LOOOONG deliverytime over here (being Dutch is not always cool :-))
But i like some of the recommendations. Fehrman Final Judgement :D That looks like BUSINESS. TOPS Anaconda B-model :D Sooooeeweeeeetttt!
Too bad knives over here are such a hassle to acquire. Prices in the US are LOW! And more brands available.

Why not ask around on the secondary market for a user Battle Rat? If you want a big knife and there is no problem getting it in, the Battle Rat is the best there is for the money. Not too many on the secondary market though and that speaks volumes about the knife. If you have the $$$ ( I noticed you mentioned Fehrman), a Busse Battle Mistress ergo is the way to go. About twice the price of the Rat, but they are more available on the secondary market.

For my uses, I like my Camp Tramp (7") more than my Battle Rat (9"), but the larger knife is a better chopper. You can't go wrong with either one.

I own a Battle Rat and an Ontario RTAK, as much as the SwampRat is a better knife re steel and overall quality and such, the RTAK outchops it...hate to admit it, but it does. For a jungle environment save some money and get an RTAK.
