Many of you B-Heads might remember back in June I posted photos of Crystal Lite, the polished BK15 with clear epoxy scales [http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...ork-Meet-the-BK-15-quot-Crystal-Light-quot-!]. Well, she appears here again in the background, sporting her jazzy ruby scales, ready for a night on the town. But joining her is a new girl, with, shall we say, a little more meat on her bones!

Introducing "Crystal Heavy" -- the polished and clearly-scaled BK5 that I've been fussing over since her sister "Lite" came out. They are both on their way home to reside in the kitchen drawer to be used in food prep, so I thought I'd get a couple of photos out before they left.

And here shown wearing their Holstex translucent sheaths:

That's all.

K-9 that's oficial, I hate you bad right now.

Better watch your sleep from now onwards has I will go on your house in the middle of night you while you sleep and take the knifes away.

Interesting (in a good way) look. I would probably be too concerned about getting them dirty to use them lol :D. They're a ravishing pair.

It's a unique take, that's for sure. I think I like it...will have to ponder.

Could you do the clear handles with a tint / smoke, so it's not completely clear?

Um-m-m. That's what the "ruby" part of the Lite's scale is -- transparent tint. Comes as amber, blue, red, yellow....

Amber you want, amber you gets:

Those look pretty cool, not sure I would carry one but still pretty cool.

I like the red handles a lot, actually. I think it would be neat to fill the holes in the tang of the 5 with some sort of interesting thing, semi-precious stone or something. I like the concept and execution a lot.

I wouldn't carry one either. They're going to be used in the kitchen.

Sweet. Now I want to see you start a fire with sunlight through those handles.

I tried that when I first posted the small one. :D On a bright sunny day you could get the beam to concentrate on a small area, but it didn't get very hot.

I was thinking of a grey to keep the overall clean look...but I think I like CF's idea of filling the handle with something interesting better! Don't get me wrong, I like what you've done. I'd probably only be able to keep it on display, though.

I'm waiting for the bling version next. Gold duracoated blade, some sort of silver/gold handle with dollar signs all over it... The K9 Gangsta' Becker! :P

I've been thinking of imbedding a fly in some amber ones to make it look like Lithuanian amber precious stones! :D

Great work those look great, do the handles resist scratching?

k-9, if you don't mind me asking, what do you pour to make these? do you use silicon molds? I have been experimenting lately with molds and scales but making little progress. Nice work!!!

P.S. - if they are not to be carried and just kitchen duty - why the sheaths? don't get me wrong, these knives show a lot of elbow grease done right, and it was that 15 that got me thinking in this new project.

I started this back in May, I think, with lots of $ and time invested in several types of epoxies and silicon mold material. Some worked -- some didn't. Lets just say like the rest of life, you get what you pay for. Most of the transparent epoxies sold for craft stuff is way too brittle for scales. They look pretty, but the first time you tighten the screws and hear a sickening "crack!" you'll know what I mean.

ok...so what epoxy is good? I have some 3M fiberglass that have been using to make homemade micarta, and going to get some silicone rubber this weekend to make a mold, but would appreciate input as to stuff that works. Thanks for the advice on craft epoxy! I was about to get some lol.
