Meet Kalama

i was asked by kalama to make a knife like the one in my avitar but with a 6" blade. here is what i came up with. it still has to be heat treated yet but last night i put a mirror finish on it just playing around. i also decided to name it after him.

thanks. i put the finish on last night during a thunderstorm which was messing with my body. it was a good distraction. i had a decent finish on but i started over at 400 grit then went to 1000 grit before going to a hard buff at around 25000 rpm and white rouge. i heat treated the blade this evening and i'm in the process of working on the finish. i might leave it at 15 micron instead of a mirror finish since its going to be used to dispatch hogs.
 
Well, whatever you do it looks good now and I am sure it will look good when its done. Waiting on the pictures of it complete. Jim
 
That looks great Richard. I prefer that blade shape to any others you've done so far.
 
Can't wait to see the finished pics. Also, can you start a before and after pics thread on my BM630?

Geez, I dunno. With the mirror finish it has on it now, you could just flash the blade in that big old boar's general direction and temporarily blind the bastard while you stepped in for the kill. :D

i'm still working on the finish around the ricasso where therer are a few tiny pits that were in the steel. kalama said a satin finish would have been ok but i wanted to see what it looked like with a mirror finish.

aloha richard the pahi (knife) looks better an better in every pic got to show kimo,alohaz
 
thanks for the compliments guys. i finally got the remaining pits out and its looking better. if i make another one it will have a satin finish like my other knives. my hands are cussing me so this will be the last knife i put a mirror finish on :D
 
This is a pretty nice knife Richard made for you...you'll be lucky if it doesn't walk out of here with me ;)
