i just put an edge on kalama and i just made a video of it slicing newspaper. it reminds me of the old ginsu commercials of the guy slicing newspaper like it was a hot knife through butter. i'm heading to the post office so it will be on its way kalama .
today i ground kalama II. its bigger and badder but i'm not going to do a mirror finish on this one. it has an 8" blade, 13" overall and is 1 11/16" wide.
i have a method to put a mirror finish on a knife real quick but it plays heck on the fingers. i wish i had taken a vid of how i did it but maybe one of these days i will.
i went from a fairly fresh 400 grit belt to a worn 400 grit and then worked by hand with 600 lengthwise from the tip back until i had the lines going from spine to edge gone.
then i went to a 19 micron belt to put lines back in from the spine to the edge and went to 1000 grit. i went back to the 19 micron and to a 1500 grit and finished it off on the buffer. i used a real hard 1 1/2" wide cotton buffing wheel. this wheel is so hard you could actually put speed knots on someones head with it
