Meeting Bill Bagwell

David,

There is only one preson I know of who is making sheaths like that .......... me. Those are a couple of my Southern Comfort sheaths. All my Bagwells (6) wear them. A couple of them have been carried a lot. They have "freeplay" built in and do not scratch the blades, just as Rob said. (Rob knows his stuff and is a very talented sheathmaker.) They also have a no rattle lock up, and a smooth no drag draw from concealment. Hell of a lot of things going at the same time in a sheath and not particularly easy to do, or you'd see more people try. If I get time to take pictures of my Bagwells without the sheaths I will. (I've posted some in other threads.) I've got two I can post here. The Belle with the Ebony handle is my main carry, about 10.75" blade. The Bowie with the Cocobolo handle has a 10.5" blade.

The knives pictured with the picture of Bill Bagwell are some he had on hand the last time I visited his shop. I believe the two Bird's Head knives belong to Bob Furusho. The top one is called a Vidalia Maiden and I'm pretty sure Bill has one made to sell at the Classic.

I keep having to come back to this thread.

Amazing knives and awesome sheaths.

I'm especially fond of the Belle with the ebony handle.

To Robert H and Mike Sastre thanks for setting me straight on Kydex. I really like the Southern Comfort sheaths in your pictures Mike, I think I'll have to get one in the near future.
It won't be necessary to post pictures of your Bagwell Hell's Belles as I checked some of your other posts at your suggestion. You have an enviable collection of Bagwell Bowies.
Thanks

Dave,

Shot this one, so might as well post it. Top one has about 10.5" blade. Stag has about 10.25" blade. Bottom one has 9.5" blade (my first Bagwell).

Thanks for that last picture Mike,
those are three incredible blades. In searching this forum, after reading your initial post, I have seen Hell's Belles with coffin handles, with dog bone handles and with stag handles. Do you have a preference for one over the other with a Southern Comfort sheath and concealablity in mind? Would the dog bone have a capability of snagging on clothing when compared with the coffin handle?
Dave

Dave,

If you want to split hairs, the coffin handle is probably the most concealable, but the dog bone's conceal well also. Stag handled knives concealability will depend on the direction of any natural bend in the stag. Example: I set the Southern Comfort with the stag handle up for a rt. hnd., strongside carry, forward grip draw, but the handle flares to the outside this way and prints a little. At some point I'll make a sheath that is set up for a cavalry draw (hand reversed from forward grip - back of hand to body, palm out; edge to front), and that will have the handle snugging into my body. This particular stag handle has a ridge along it's length that is oriented perfectly with the edge. Cool! Here's a picture of my other Bagwells naked.

WOW, again mike really like them, just wondering do the studs stick into your hand a lot or are they comfortable enough? :D

I can not say enough about Bills work he just made me a beautiful damascus and stag Hell's belle that is my most cherished blade. do a search on here damascus stag hell's belle and it will come up. If any of you live in the area or near to where Bill will be appearing you should go and meet him. I meet him in person when I ordered this blade and he is simply awesome . he really knows how to makie a proper fighting bowie. Don't miss a chance to meet him. Mike has done some work for me and his stuff is of the finest quality. As for coffin handles on a bowie they are simply put very user friendly harder you swing the tighter your hand gets and you always know where your edge is..

yea, i saw that bowie you lucky sod :D. I'd cherished it too lol. Wonder if Mike had asny luck with my letter. How I wish I lived in the states. I'm really tempted to jump on a plane and go and see him. Pity I'm a poor student ;):D:eek:

pootsy,

The studs act as index points with no discomfort. Haven't had a chance to check on your letter.

cheers Mike. I always wondered about them because I have very sensitive hands :D. do you use your Bagwell Bowies or are your's like protected from everyone?? :D
