With Sparks blessing, (TY Spark!) I wanted to put this out there for you all.
Meetup.com is a great site to search for groups in your area that have regular events in things that interest you.
For example, type in "Hiking" or "Backpacking", your state, your areas zip code (and max distance of your search from your zip) in the search menu and you might be surprised how many different groups there are. Click on each group and surf their group page to get a feel for what they do, how many belong, past trips and pictures of the outing, future events and a feel for how in shape the group is.
Theres a backpacking group in my area, a major city, with over 2000 members and most of the other groups are well into the several hundreds.
You can also start your own group for a particular interest you have..... say survival skills for example.
This website has been around a while and has had great success. Your entire family could benefit from it and is a great way to network with people.
I get weekly updates for my zip code showing me all events being planned for the week.
Check it out, it's a great way to get out and do things you love but often do alone or with just a few people that you know that share your interests! It connects people and interests.
If you do join any group or start one along the lines of WSS forum or for hiking or packing, mention this site and urge them to check it out. Knives go hand in hand with most anything outdoors.
