MEGA MOAB PROTO........Black Widow Edition

Didn't like the MOAB either.....BUT....I know that it functions well, locks up like a bank vault, and probably has great ergonomics.

This is one of those "different to be different" knives, and you either like it or, don't like it....sort of like the Steyr-AUG or the FN that Tim has pictured with the Mega Moab....neither gun would I own, but might like to shoot.

Simply, just don't care for the aesthetics...and since Tim and I are buds, don't have to worry about him telling me to go f**k myself, at least not seriously.;)

I feel pretty much the same ( including the firearm ).
It's unique and different , and the precision and quality is no doubt above the bar , but not a style that appeals to me. IF I make it to the plaza show , I hope I get the opportunity to hold it to see if the feel is less "blocky" than the appearance.

Really hope that you make it up, John, it is a superb show, and would like to meet you face-to-face. Met Trace Rinaldi there for the first time back 4 years ago, seems like yesterday.

Knowing Tim and his work, the feel will not be "blocky", however, he has a penchant for "angular" in his aesthetic that is not to my tastes....however, to his credit, even amongst the fantastic makers represented at the Plaza Show, Tim makes one of the smoothest functioning knives in the room.

I really like the way this blade extends when so many of the current designs all flex. For those naysayers, I would assume you dislike Dwaine Carrillo's Airkat knives and any music with dissonant composition as well. How boring.

Duder,

Get over yourself...no, I don't care for the Airkat designs..or the production of Dark Ops..whatever....because you like it, does this make you superior? Maybe to you it does. Troll much?

As far as the music you reference, I am a big fan of John Zorn, Mr. Bungle, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Circus Lupus, Neurosis, and The Boredoms, to name a few.

Questionable regards,

I actually dig all of Carillo's work , I like most of Tim's work as well , the blade on this one just dont do it for me. Sure wish I could make one this well though.

and any music with dissonant composition as well
uhhh , since I have no friggin idea what that is ... I cant answer it.
My music tastes are vast...well except for most country...and most rap. Everything else from Bela Fleck to Shadows fall or Napalm Death, and plenty in between.

u dont like hip-hop?

Mean, tough, quick, brash, swirled around with a little attitude is what this MOAB screams. Love it Tim.

What the hell Tim??? I spend 7 years teachin you bout curve and what do ya do?

Build a sexy as hell knife without a curve anywhere. Beautiful!! Great detail!!

I was not being a troll, and I certainly wasn't trying to make it about you and me. You weren't the only dissenter. I was just trying to show support to the OP. Looks like our taste in music and love of blades would probably put the two of us as having more in common with one another than out. Nice to meet you. BTW Mike Patton and John Zorn both way heavily in my collection and I consider both to be musical geniuses. Dark Ops on the other hand, I am not a fan of...

Back on topic, the strong reactions this knife is getting both ways is a sign that it is quite extraordinary even if it's not well-liked by all.

No one disputed that the knife was extraordinary, but if people don't like it, they should post that as well...that way, we have a discussion, rather than the blatant fanboyism that pervades many other Forums, and ALL of the knife magazines.

I didn't find your post to be a PERSONAL attack, but the overt condescending tone was annoying, so I responded as I did.....nice to meet you in the ethernet as well....Tim is much beloved around here, but I can't think of one maker on the planet who hits it out of the park every time up at bat, at least not in the public market, anyway.

Steven Garsson

Understood  When I don't like a knife I don't post. Most folks don't take criticism very well, constructive or not. I do like the MEGA MOAB's angular, extending blade, although it is probably about as practical as the FN 5.7 caliber. The way the extending blade fits in the handle just looks cool and unique to me. I really like the Warren Thomas M19 design for that reason as well.

You guys need not fret. I make what I like, and dont really care if anyone else does. I just happen to be lucky enough that some people do like it.

I have always thought that if a knife of mine gets mixed reactions that I have accomplished something, and that would be that the knife knife has 'Style' and when something has Style is going to turn someone on and turn someone off.

That is pretty close to what you told me at SHOT 2008 when we were talking and I agree 100%.

Just like cars and women , life would be boring if they all looked the same.

I think it is an amazing design and must have taken hours to machine. If you produce it or would consider selling it, let me know as it is one of the coolest designs I have EVER seen.
