The top knife is the Seiryu pattern and the bottom is one of the larger “Kogatana” models which I wrapped and made a sheath for. Xmas 2019 I gave my son his choice of my small field/survival knives and he chose the Seiryu. It cut/carved so well I immediately began looking for a replacement and found the Kogatana. The only other knife I would have replaced would have been the SW Desert Storm Fighter (or the Mega Warden had I owned it at the the time). The tips on both Takedas are like needles and have both held up to wood carving amazingly well...I've not seen any of his work that looks like yours though, what is that pattern called?
I don't believe that's actually what that tool is, I have seen Murray Carter use a similar tool and he said that they (the ones he uses) are made by him expressly for this purpose. I would imagine this one has a similar design intent.
I’m not sure I understand - are you saying the tool being used to re-surface the grinding wheel isn’t an axe/has a different name? I wouldn’t be surprised by that as Japan seems to have a specialized blade for almost everything...
