Melted blade.......

hahaha yeah I'm making a smaller one next, a small utility type blade.
thanks for the link faramir! nothing like keeping it short and sweet. ;)
I did know about the colors, but the problem was I was using a stupid pipe (huge mistake) and I had to keep it out all the way to check the color and with a magnet, then I would continue rocking it in side the pipe. next time it'll be just the torch or when I get an oven or forge....:D

you'll find it hard to keep the whole thing up to temp. if it's over 8-7" long
so get some fire brick to reflect the heat and help hold some heat in.
I can do an 8-9" with a big tip but you have to be careful and watch close.
don't be scratching your a$$ while heating it  :D .

You might try propane. The regulator of the acetylene system will screw right on a propane bottle with no changes. But you will have to buy a propane tip. The difference, as far as heat, is the acetylene is about 5,600 degrees with a neutral flame (the flame with the preheaters ajusted white but not fuzzy or with a feather) while the propane is about 3,600 degrees. The propane flame will not burn the steel as easily and heat time is not too bad. Also the price difference is about 10 to 1 the propane being cheeper.

my father said he has a tiger torch that should get hot enough with the propane but not hot enough to burn, unless I REALLY screw it up this time hahahaa :D I'm not really sure what he means but I'll see when he drops it off to me.
