I've been wondering about something similar. I have a bunch of sacagewea dollars I'd like to melt down so they're worth something. Should be able to get around 4.5 cents a piece in melt value out of them!

I feel it doesn't matter. They are valuable regardless. Somebody would gladly take them in any condition. I know I would.
