So I list a Benchmade 3550, he emails with "I will take it", sends me paypal, I ship it and now get a case opened via paypal claiming "Unauthorized Payment" when I have all the email proof to back it up.

Sellers beware.

Imagine that. Amazingly enough, I am in investigator so hopefully it will all end rather quickly.

The only way that could have happened is if the owner's account has been hacked. But if you sent the knife to his confirmed address and have shipping confirmation, you should still be able to collect your money.

He emailed me back and said that Paypal charged the wrong card on his account and that the only way to correct the issue was through a chargeback. It keeps getting deeper.

That is erroneous. If you pay someone with an instant payment method using Paypal, Paypal puts that money in the sellers account. Then after 2 or 3 days, the payment from the buyer will attempt to clear. If the payment method that the buyer selected did not have the available funds, Paypal will give that user a negative account balance in which the Paypal user will have to settle with Paypal directly. There is no chargeback needed. Sounds suspect.

Not if what the buyer was saying was that, "Oh, crap! I didn't mean for the charge to hit that card! She-who-must-be-obeyed will see it!? Uh... CHARGEBACK. Tell Paypal I didn't do it! Heck, I'll tell her the same thing!!"

Not the way I would have handled it but... one more possibility.

Got an email back yesterday saying he has corrected the issue and offers an apology. Odd thing is that paypal still shows this as an open dispute.

Possibly, the buyer has not received the credit yet from Paypal that was deducted from the original source/card. It won't close until that happens.

As far as I know this is resolved, sticky, but resolved. Not asking for much but the fact that this is resolved and wont happen again.

Don't you have any courtesy to preempt the seller even if you were in the mess.

What do you mean by 'resolved' if seller has yet to get the money...

It doesn't seem resolved to me. I would have righted my wrong in week, not let it drag on and then say resolved.

I never got my money back. It's not resolved because you disputed it.

I would call PP to see exactly what is going on.

It seems there have been more problems than usual on the exchange lately. I was about to start listing some knives again, but with some of the problems in the last couple of months I'm a bit leery.

I agree, I've stopped buying for the same reason. Too many known thieves still members for me to risk my money.

Axeman, hopefully that puts this mess to rest.

Another reason I dont use PP. I pay with or accept USPS money orders only. Hope everything works out.

Is this resolved yet? Paypal said they refunded you the money on March 22 and I sent you the money on February 25. If you want to make me wait a couple months that's fine, just let me know. thanks
