Member input wanted! New WS&S Rules Thread

Andy, I highly doubt you were one of the makers he was talking about, you are one of the most active members here.
I don't even mind if some guys pop in now and then, maybe they are just busy actually using and making knives?
If we aren't going to make a rule about it it just seems like we are complaining about things that bug us. There is much more good about the forum then bad, pretty close to perfect I'd say. A few guidelines for newbies never hurt though, maybe suggesting they try and post pics as much as possible?
I love introductory posts with a few pics of their gear and camping trips.

I appreciate that guys. Thank You. You guys have to realize though, that two of my models were mentioned by name in this thread.

Outside of the Gallery and the Exchange forums, there is no area where pictures are more a part of the experience than W&SS. Pictures of where we've been and what we did and what we used there, very much including knives. Pictures of new knives, especially in response to new ideas that W&SSers want to see.

We're looking for ideas! It's OK to include worrying that the good old days shouldn't be cut off. (They won't.) But don't get fixated on your fears.

The next step is for Brian and Kevin to go through this thread and organize as many basic statements as they can about how W&SS came to be as successful as it is. Once they post that, you'll get to see this a bit more clearly, and can comment more dispassionately on what should stay and what might be added.

The man has 8700 posts to his credit. I find it hard to believe he has this many models he has been pimping here. That many posts tells me he does just a little more than pimp his knives, but what the hell do I know.

Geesh, this is a knife forum, what do you expect people to be posting on here? I could understand if a guy posts pictures of some cheap Pakistani folder and says look at my knife, and then says oh by the way look at my car I have for sale and here's the link.

If you don't like to look at what a maker is posting, don't. It is called free will, and no one is forcing you to look. I know this is the survival part of the web site, but what is your most basic survival tool??? A KNIFE!! I come here to look at knives and learn something new. Not find fault in someone.

I think even if a new maker posts a picture of his knife and a little about it and asks what do you think, that should be fine. Right now there maybe a great new maker out there reading this who is not into all the chit chat online, and now we will never see what he has because he doesn't want to be called out for God for bid, posting a picture of his knife on a knife forum with only 1 post to his credit. Maybe he will open up after he feels more comfortable here.

Myself, I would rather see a picture of a knife from someone with one post, than a picture of a flower from someone with 10,000 posts. That's just me, but I would never say anything to them about their flower, I just wouldn't look at their thread anymore. No magic, no bitching.

I think most people come here and read MANY MANY threads and posts before ever making a post on a thread. They have a damn good idea how things work on here right from the get go. I highly doubt anyone joins, opens the first thread they see and says wow, I am going to post my opinion on this thread.

While they maybe new to posting, they are not new to reading and understanding how the forum is run and what is expected of them 90% of the time.

I remember one of my earliest posts, actually under a different username I lost the password to or something, a long time ago. It was in a thread about building a fire under ground so noone could see it if you were being followed. One guy started belly aching about how this, to him, indicated being on the lam from the cops and he was shocked and apalled this type of behaviour was tolerated, yadda yadda yadda,
anyway I was a noob at the time and made fun of the guy for being such a wet blanket, I think I was a bit brasher then was required, and I could have been banned possibly, thinking back.
Anyway, not sure if this post even means anything but I do trust that whatever is going on here isn't going to change anything, these guys are working hard to make this an even better place to hang out.

I know I for one do a LOT more forum reading than I do posting, especially here.

You guys are the knife user's, your thoughts on knives have shaped many of my designs.

I've always tried to avoid pimping myself, mostly out of respect for those around me, it just seems unseemly to constantly be trying to sell oneself, but I must confess I do get excited sometimes and need to share that excitement with other likeminded folks......

Stephen, Again, it's easy to tell who is sharing and who is spamming. The problem is extremely rare...like I said, we just want to avoid another RedScorpion6 situation.

Stephan,
I am like you. I come here nearly everday to read and have for a long time now. Seeing what the WS&S people liked had greatly influenced what I build.
I don't post alot, but love the pictures of the outdoors, cause that is where my heart is at. Real knife reviews and pics of outdoors and hikes with Maisy are my fav's.

Brian,
Thanks for qualifying the pervious statements about knifemakers.

Mark

Ahhhhh ok so thats what happened to get him banned.
I always wondered what led up to that, and now i know.
