This is a map I made today showing the rough location and information for the members in the Texas Knifemakers and Collectors Association. The locations are by postal code, so not exact, but it gives you an idea of the distribution of some of the makers, collectors, suppliers, and engravers in Texas (showing TKCA members only). All the information I included in the map is publicly available on the TKCA website. Hover on a balloon to see the name, and click on the balloon to show more detailed information if available.

I joined the TKCA yesterday, and I'll have to forward this map along to the webmasters there to add to the site if they'd like. I just find it helps me to see where everyone is. For new makers, this can help them locate a maker in their region that they might contact to mentor with.

That's pretty cool. I'm shown in roughly the correct location, about 20 miles off. Maybe it could be put on the TKCA site where each member could edit thier location, if needed.

That reminds me, I need to update my knife photo on there.

Mike, yeah there just wasn't a good way to put everyone's address in, so I had to settle for locating by postal code. The spots of the markers are roughly the centers of the postal zip-codes. Some people it stuck in the middle of a lake, so I moved those :D. The addresses of the makers are listed under their balloon, so I figure if anyone needed more specific directions, they wouldn't have trouble. I did this over a couple of hours, but I can see improving it over time. I think it'd be a great idea to have it on the website, as I remember when I was a starting maker trying to find if there was anyone around me who made knives. There just wasn't a good way to find out. This map may help a bit with that.

I did not seem to be listed, no biggy. Very nice job Nathan it looks good, but I am starting to think that you have to much free time. :)

Wade, I went off the member's bio page on the TKCA site. Are you listed on that page? I guess what I need is a full list of TKCA members.

I do occasionally have free time. Mainly, the semester just finished and all the finals are done, so I've got a little down time (though still in the office) over the holidays. :)
