Does anyone else feel uncomfortable dealing with those members that don't have e mail addresses listed or is it just me? Maybe some feedback is needed on this subject. Thanks

I agree - the less info on the profile - the more suspicious I become. Having a web mail doesn't help much either.

When in doubt - I would ask for the other party to check my feedback n the GB&U and ask politely to be given the benefit of the seniority...

new member - with not much feedback on the forum - should ship first.

Also – I have noticed recently that some threads are less convincing than others...

by that I mean – someone starts a thread about how great some old time and respected member is...said old timer chimes in saying - the other one is good also...

When a thread like that is followed by no other known member stating his approval – I will only use such threads reference to email the old time member and inquire about the deal, the value and the communication...

I would have liked to see the same type of registration here at BladeForums that one has to go through at eBay, where they MUST have a (non-free) email account (not Yahoo or Hotmail, etc.), or a valid credit card, in-order to register. That does provide some accountability, and does tend to lessen the troll population.

There are thousands of web-based anonymous mail servers and more being set up every week. It's easy to add a mail server to your website and everybody and his hamster is doing it. It's not possible to identify them all.

Go with your instincts. If it doesn't feel comfortable, tell the other party. Ask for references. Ask that they ship first. When you don't feel right, don't agree to the trade.

I have only had one or two transactions that went poorly. in both cases, I just stated my concerns, and needs. When they could not be met. I said no thank you.

One of these people went on to steal from another member.

Over all, my experience here has been outstanding. I have dealt with some pretty cool people. There can be many reasons to mask your identity. Some of us have safety concerns.

Ed is right - but no safety consideration is good enough to refuse to send first to a known and well-respected member of this community...if the FNG starts acting up on this demand - simply back off...

Hey Guys...

Yup, I agree 110%...

As far as IU'm concerned I think Everyone should have a valid email address listed...

If you want to be part of a community, there should be certain things you have to do to be part of it..That should be one of them....

I'm sure there are several reasons people don't want them listed,, and quite possibly why Spark allows it,,However..

I think it should be something that is insisted upon.
Maybe we should have a talk with Spark about having that done,, I don't know...

maybe Spark could chime in about the good and bad points of this...

There's no reason not to put an email address in your profile IMHO, since you can use a web-based server if you don't want to use your regular address -- but a lot of people don't know about web-based mail servers. We don't want to bar people from joining Bladeforums just because they don't know much about the net. (By the way, it's amazing how many people have been on the net for a long time without even finding out that much.)

to remove\not show an email address: trolls

I usually have my email hanging out there for everyone but I posted a couple of replies to a couple of known trolls and got nervous about them setting me up for a virus or whatever. I have no problem with the suggestions that have been made, but I do feel justified in hiding my address temporarily. Now I just won't respond to trolls anymore :D

I have no trouble dealing with people that want to keep their email addresses secret. When I am doing business with these people I find out their email addresses anyway.

Most of the people that have ripped others off on the forums have had visible email addresses.
