Memorial Day Dirt time...testing, head to head tests, and just plain wood destroying!

awesome stuff Gene! I got a 4 the other day and cant wait to thrash and smash :D Its getting old just walking around, swinging it at nothing :(

Nice thread. I never felt the need for the 7, with the others I have. Granted, I've never held one, just sayin'.

I totally understand what your sayin! I am a big fan of the "one knife" idea. When I leave the house in the morning, I can't bring my collection with me...so if some sort of unfortunate turn of events unfolded and I needed to get home on foot (I work 35-45 miles from home) then I want to grab my "go bag" and get the hell home, I feel like the BK7 is a pretty good choice.
I like the idea of having a light knife that does big work. It fills a lot of rolls in this story line. It might have to be used defensively, offensively, for bush craft, and camp cooking. Game processing. It has to be a Jack of all trades.
Would I like to have all of them...or at least a couple..sure.
Like today, I took the BK7 and the BK16 in the "go bag". I have some other gear stowed in the truck..like a tomahawk and an Estwing Axe...just lots of gear. What I grab if that day ever comes, who knows...

^sounds just like me...ive got a "now I have to walk home from work" bag in my trucks tool box too :D

I would hope we all do. :D Anyone that has been stranded, should have a "back to the homestead" bag.

I've got a "rebuild the Starship Enterprize" truck! You open the cap, and try to get something and stuff starts collapsing like a bad bit in a B movie! I use all the junk in there all the time though...so it works for me.

I got a buddy like that, it cracks me up, but he's from deep southwest Virginia, where, as he calls it, "Help ain't just a minute away, its an hour, if its comin' at all".

Good words to live by.

A BK7 is a great all around choice in a knife for that type of situation. Plus, its alot lighter than it looks.

Hm, I think my one-blade for the truck would be my BK2, but I wouldn't want to haul it in a 'walk-home' bag. A BK10 would be a better selection from that perspective. 5" or less for my one-knife, please. Unfortunately I'm prolly still stuck under the 'BK2 is probably illegally "concealed" behind the seat' restriction.

Speaking of walking home, I like the idea of having a foot-travel ready small bag in the truck that could be stuffed with some of the essentials from the tool bag & glove box in case a two-legged exit was necessary. Maybe that's what this idle EMS Field Bag will become. Thanks for the idea.

I hear you about the legality. I imagine we live close enough to both understand what its like up here under the thumb.
I have a large Camelback in the back seat, with all my basic stuff, first aid, bino's, small kit stuff. Esbit stove. Basics really. I also have the route home mapped, and several "way points" along the path. Places I think I could regroup if need be.
I don't do anything but go to work and drive home, I can't think of why I would get in a jamb legally with my "Go Bag"...but you never know.

I think it would take a really overzealous Statie to site you for having a 7" bladed knife in a "woods" bag. Especially if he had to dig through your truck to find it. Of course things happen, but.....

Oh, and I know not all New England cops are Staties, but, I'm American, so, in my mind they pretty much all are. :D

You colonists and your funny ways........
