On Memorial Day, I would like to give a salute to all those who have given there lives for this country, be it in war or peace. I ask that the forum members here do me a favor. Lets keep the spirit of Memorial Day alive all year long. Keep those who have given all alive in your thoughts, deeds, and prayers.
Thank you,

I'm convinced that when I was a kid, that Memorial Day was a bigger deal holiday than it has become now. Somehow, even more than the 4th of July, the business of observed date, rather than the actual day, has bothered me most about this holiday.

One of my more memorable Memorial Days was when I was 16 or 17, and my family drove up to Wisconsin -- from Illinois -- to visit the grave of my great-grandfather, who'd served in the Civil War.

Since I was in Vietnam, this day has had even more personal meaning than ever before. All the friends/acquaintances, occupants of body bags, bodies carried til we could get to an LZ, the first two guys I saw die, I salute you, and all your kindred souls, from that and the other wars they died in.
