I was wondering the other day what was my first Tactical knife folder or fixed? I was active duty at Ft.Hood, TX. ( 1st Cav.) and went to the local PX and picked up a BM970 CE CQC7 for $45 brand new! I just loved that knife and had it many years. Anyone else have memories of their first?:D

Thanks
David

CRKT KFF, partial serrated. Back when it was AUS6M.

It came in the mail, and I was intimidated. Wasn't a knife guy before, so the thought of even carrying one really intimidated me. I remember carrying it on an NYC subway, and I was so nervous lol! very very green.

Couldn't even flick it open without doing surgery to my fingers lol!

Now I can look back and laugh.

CRKT mil hre/1* apache mini.
i think it was 154cm or ats34, 2.5" black blade,
nicely machined aluminum scales, linerlock,
great handle shape and a great blade shape.
and it shaved out of the box.

i lost my original and had to scrounge to find a new one last year.
too bad i've gotten all these other nice knives since,
and the apache sees no use..

My first fixed blade tactical was a 68 Gerber mark 2, first tactical folder has to be a Buck 110 back in the mid 60's. If you don't consider the Buck to be tactical it would be my 96 Microtech SOCOM MA.

My first would be my BuckLite. Had it back in college (1989-ish) and used it throughout a semester of travel and camping. Was a great knife, but I lost it.

My first "tactical" knife was a Spyderco FRN Endura that I purchased from the BX at McGuire AFB. I looking for some fishing lures when I came upon it in the wrong aisle. Someone must have had second thoughts and placed it where ever they felt like it. I picked the plastic clamshell and was checking it out. Liked it so much that I bought 2; one for work, one for play.

BM AFCK. Bought it and a Panther from discountknives when he was in business in, oh, '97 or 98?

But if we count butterfly knives, it was probably '86, a 3" dragonlock, not those 4" cheapies that were everywhere at the time I still have the box. The knife got taken by a cop, but I picked up the 3.5" dragonlock that I still have today.

About 1993, I picked up a Gerber Bolt Action that I carried for a number of years too.

I don't know which one you count as first tactical. I'd count the AFCK.

Gerber E-Z Out, if that counts. I think it probably does... One handed opening, polymer handle, locking blade.
I think I got it in '96, maybe '97. Bought an E-Z Out Jr. for the girl I was dating at the time, shortly after I got mine, and since we were both avid outdoorspeople, she loved it and carried it everywhere. I hadn't yet gotten my feet wet in the Benchmade/Spyderco puddle, so I thought it was the greatest thing ever. :) It was the knife that introduced me to the idea of one-handers, and the notion that not all blades looked like a shiny Buck knife (bead-blasted finish was amazing at the time). After I got it and carried it for a while, I started to realize that technology (of which I'm a big fan) was being applied to the making & design of pocketknives (of which I've always been a fan)... The light bulb clicked on, and a monster was born. :D

Still have it, although I don't carry it any more. Maybe I'll wait until I meet a budding knifeknut who's carrying a real piece of crap, and pass it along.

Peace.
Alex.

Benchmade Model 600 Combat Talon. I've been told it was their first collaboration (by Walter Brend).

Bought it back in the mid '90's. Still have it and still love it though it shows lot's of wear.

Got one of those cheapo Ontario "pilot's survival knives" with a sawback and a little stone in the sheath at a gun show when I was 12 or so. Carried it in the woods behind a friend's house on afternoon "survival" outings. Somehow, even though I haven't carried that knife for 20+ years, I've been able to survive just fine. :p Was the last "tactical" knife I ever bought.

Do you remember the cheap-o survival knives that were copies of the Buckmaster? Had one of those too. I was 13 what can I say. I loved that knife too before I even knew it was junk, oh my how our taste have changed. So, I guess really my first tactical was that knife got it from a hardware store in my town.:D

I'd had to look into my files, but I'd say a Gerber Mark I; made me feel special.

1982- Gerber Mark II, Command 1, and Folding Sportsman II.

Added a Bolt Action in 1984, and a Kabar somewhere in there. Spyderco Delica in 1992.

More recently, my first bonafide "tactical" folder was a BM-Emerson 975 CQC7 in 1997, the knife that sorta started the whole "tactical" folder genre.

Nobody really categorized knives as "tactical" until the mid to late 1990s, but there have always been miltary-style knives.

I carried a Buck 110 and M8 bayonet in the USMC.

The first one I got when I got out was a BM CQC7. Still have it!

Regards,

Jeremy

LOL...I still have and use my Bucklite, but my first tactical would have to be my BuckMaster......my dad bought it for me when I was 13!
