Taken from Mendowood's site:

"A naturally occuring knob of the American Whitethorn, a close relative of the Irish Greenbriar. Finished with acrylic.

The Whitethorn is a species of the Crataegus genus which is a member of the Rosaceae family (Rose). It is also known has Hawthorn or Hawthorn berry. The shafts are made of 3/4" diameter steel pipe coated with epoxy and have a wood core. The shape is uneven simulating a "natural" stick. The finish of the stick is smooth and polished...."

This one is a whopper! It measures 38" in OAL (measured from the bottom of the rubber tip to highest point on the handle), the Whitethorn handle/knob is 4-1/2" at its widest point, and the shaft is 1" in diameter. According to my cheap-O kitchen scale, this shillelagh/walking stick wieghs in at 2-1/2 pounds!

This stick has never been used. removed

Truely a unique piece.

FOR SALE:

Mendowood Manhattan walking stick.

The shaft is a composite of several materials: steel pipe with a hardwood core and two coats of hand molded epoxy to give the stick an uneven wood appearance. It also has three coats of finish.

This is nice stick with plenty of mass to use as a SD tool if need be.

The osage orange handle is approximately 1-7/8" wide, and the shaft is 3/4" in diameter. The collar seperating the two is bronze. The OAL of this walking stick is just over 37".

This stick has never been used. There is a small hole at the top of the handle from the lathe tailstock. It came to me this way, and has been filled with clear epoxy.
