I definitely need to get one of Rick's knives, they get more impressive each day.

Congrats Thomason! It looks great. Hope it's in your pocket.

I got a call from Rick last week. I finally made it to the top of his list:thumbup::thumbup:

I'll try to share some pics when they arrive!

Great lines in that dogleg. The long-pull and swedge are really nicely done as well.

Rob's knife there is natural linen micarta Rick is using a lot of 154 CM these days & it is pretty much like ATS-34 (I'm pretty sure)
-Vince

You're right Vince.....154cm. I don't know where ATS-34 came from.....I think I was thinking of Bret Dowell. All my knives from him are ATS-34.

You're also correct about 154cm and ats-34...they are pretty much the same alloy.

Thanks for the nice comments. I use ats-34 or 154cm mainly. That knife is 154cm. Several years ago when i was making lots of fixed blades ats got pretty dirty inside. Thats when i started useing a lot of 154cm. I think that problem has worked its self-out. Both materials respond the same for me with the heat treat, draw, cryo cycle and the rockwell. Without getting a pissing match started its the best steel around. The grind, Heat-treat and CRYO have more to do with it than anything else. Brett also uses ats and 154 with the same results. We both have used a lot of d2. D2 is great steel however theyre is a variation from different supply houses. Some of it is made overseas some in the us.It does respond better to cryo than any steel i have ever tested. Its Great stuff.
