Powerful. We shared a comon reference point with the Germans and that made it possible.

Great moment of humanity in one of man's really dark time of stupidy, arrogance and Glory?!. One aspect that is little known was that the unions in both UK and Germany were going to stage protests in August 1914 against the increasing probability of hostilities. Whoops they were tipped at the posts by the Archduke's assasination.
