Merry Christmas to my traditional friends

At this very moment my wife is running around like a chicken with her head cut off. Last night she was up late finishing her family recipe caramels. Very demanding process and the caramels taste no different than the Brachs caramels you'd buy at the store - though I will NEVER say that. She just ran out to pick up the 2nd part of a weight bench both our boys want for Christmas. She received an email last night that it had just come in. I had to finish my shopping this Monday as I had to work up until today & tomorrow. Flu season is the worst I have ever seen and our clinic has been swamped with patients to work up.

All the consumerism & hectic running to & fro can ruin the holiday. You need to step back and find your happy spot in this holiday. For me seeing the sick kids coming into work that just need to be better in time for Christmas always brings a smile to my face. There they sit all miserable & sniffley, but at the mention of Santa Claus you see a sparkle in their eyes & a slight upward turn at the corner of their mouth. I also like seeing the light displays in the small town around where I live. I sidetracked on the way home the other night from work just to see the lights lit up in our little downtown. My favorite so far though is in this small 1 stop light town on the way home from work. There is a construction business on the side of the highway and they have a lit up Christmas Tree decoration dangling from the top of the crane. It's also a time to remember the ghosts of Christmases past. I didn't have the best of childhoods, but Christmas was still a magical time of year to me as a kid. I remember time spent with my Grandparents & Dad, all gone now. Midnight Mass at my Grandmothers when my Uncle was still a Priest. Christmas Time up in the barracks while in the Army (Not safe for full disclosure on the forum LOL). And just time spent well with family & friends.

And that's what this holiday is about. It's the time of the year that we TRY to be what we are suppose to as a person. We act a little nicer, we think of others before ourselves, we let our loved ones know how important they are to us, and generally try to do good in this world.

And that is the spirit of Christmas to me.

Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family, Duncan!!

Mark, I will keep your Mother in my prayers!

I wish all of you on the porch a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year.

I will be up on the cupolas to make room:D

"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.'"

That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.
