Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas, friends, and may God bless you all! You're great people, all of you. I'm glad I found this place. :D

Spot on Sharri! I don't write much on the Cantina these days but I read it nearly every day. This forum is something special and much credit for this goes to Uncle Bill.

Christmas Day has just arrived in Australia (we Australians are always one step ahead of you Americans - just kidding). I'm a fortunate man. My kids have all come home for Christmas. My wife and I have followed a tradition that goes back decades now. Tonight we have driven around admiring the Christmas lights on the houses, had our Christmas wine together, watched Carols from the Myer Centre in Melbourne on TV (something special in Australia), wrapped all our presents and placed them under our tree - and am about to retire to bed. As the father of someone in the Australian military, and another about to join, I really do pray for peace in 2003 and thought it a good time to take the opportunity to wish the same for all members of the Cantina and their families and friends as we celebrate the birth of Christ. Good-night to all, and may I wish you a joyful Christmas and a prosperous and a peaceful year to come.

Here in the States we have a time honored tradition of driving around and shooting out all the Christmas lights. On the way back home we plough into a few parked cars while guzzling whiskey and soda pop. Once home we demand why the TV dinners aren't done and beat the wife and children into cowering submission. The Christmas Spirit at last settling upon the household in the apartment or trailer, we huff a bunch of glue rags or some Crack Cocaine and watch "COPS" on TV. Before going to bed on the floor we resolve to vote the Democratic Ticket in hopes some freebies might alleviate the underlying social factors which caused us to act this way.

...Well, actually, in my small town of 50 there are several light displays and we are thankful for them. The little Catholic church on the Historic Register is lit up with lights. My small children have rarely been in the big city and think these wondrous signs of the true Christmas Spirit.

I am a little afraid to put up the Santa Claus particle board cut out my Mother in law brought because many of the devout here think Santa a work of the Devil...I always say; "why can't we have God and Santa?"

Merry Christmas for real,
munk

I so appreciate my friends and aquaintences here. Each morning when I get out of bed, this is the first place I go, even before coffee. Blessings on all of your houses!

After years and years of life, it seems to me that:

if you have someone you care for, someone who cares for you, and (generally) your health....everything else is just "stuff."

Good holidays.
