Mesa Verde, CO - Large Pic Heavy

I think, if I am not mistaken, the areas we were in were affected by the Bircher (2000) and Long Mesa (2002) fires. It was a fairly overcast day and we had a few spots of sunshine here and there, but mostly overcast.

Unfortunately, I was unable to build a canopy over the shot like the production crew on The Road so I had to settle for reality.

Beautiful pictures. I went to Moab a few years ago with my wife and we took a side trip to Mesa Verde. Definitely a trip worth taking!

Just stay away from the "restaurant". It is run by Aramark and I think they pressure treat their burgers. It also took almost 40 minutes to get 3 chicken tenders, 2 hamburgers and some fries. Not to mention it all tasted like it was found in the ruins.

Great pics!
It's getting warmer here so I'm getting more in the mood for camping and hiking.
These pics help alot as well :)

What great pics! Those really are some pure post WWIII pics if I've ever seen some. I'd love to make it there some time and check it out.

I miss that place. Last time I was down there was when my grand parents lived in Cortez. This makes me want to head down there now.

Great pics!

Awesome pics....Mesa Verde was one of the best vacations i ever took. Those "burns" are really depressing. Also got my favorite hat there:o

I thought the burnt landscape made Mesa Verde, a place that otherwise looks like the high desert everywhere, a more interesting place.

Don't get me wrong, I think it looks awesome. Like a real life Tim Burton movie, its just that it'll take at least a couple hundred years to regenerate fully

Very cool pics - mesa verde is a decent haul from here, but it seems like it just got added to the ever-growing list of places I must visit soon.

Cool, I always wanted to go there. Thanks for posting your trip.

Cool pics. 2006 my wife and I took a trip to the South west after we retired. Spent a lot of time in Sedona, Grand Canyon, Moab, Flaming Gorge areas, Along the Green River, at Little Hole camping area, the year before they a large fire. Looked just like your pics.
One of the greatest trips of my life.

When you are young spend the time to smell the roses
