The Lama was over for his English lesson today and asked that I "transmit" the following information. It comes from him to Asst. Samten and then to me. It may be slightly "Americanized."

Lama says:

There is a right way and a wrong way to do anything. Please inform everybody that I must do my puja right but at present do not have everything I need to get the job done.

I have no monastery in which to work so I have done emergency interim puja for all who have asked (and then some). I have thought this predicament over and the closest I can come to a monastery in Reno is the altar and puja section in Titanic II. It has about 90% of what I need and I can bring the remaining 10%.

Next week I will conduct a proper puja in the Titanic and will meet every requirement for getting the job done well. I will do Tara puja and one other which I have not yet decided.

Know this: Puja is like climbing a mountain. Liken it to going to the Himalayas to climb a mountain. It is difficult, you do not know the way, and perhaps lack some expertise so you hire an experienced leader. You do not ask the leader to carry you. You ask him to help you, to guide you, and to help you negotiate difficult obstacles on the way up the mountain. You are the climber and I am the leader. We each have our duties to perform. I will do my best and you must do your best. We must help each other. Faith is ever so important for both of us. Determination is almost as important. Universal and unconditional love are our ropes and crampons.

Blessings, Children, and rest well knowing that I will do my best and I will rest well knowing that you will do the same. Love everybody and everything, including yourselves.

And Uncle Bill says, "What has this to do with khukuris?"

Would you please be so kind as to tell him that his well-being is the only real concern of the forumites?

This has to be a Loving, Honorable, and most exceptional man. It is very good that HI has included such a man.:)

:D This is one of the reasons why I admire the people at H.I. so much.:D I look forward to meeting Lama Jigme, Uncle Bill and everyone else in march.

Uncle Bill, would you mind explaining to me what a Tara puja is? Thanks.

Please tell Lama Jigme and Lama Samten that I wish them the privilege of touching many lives, and the joy of knowing that they have done so for the better.

May they they find their journey here to be fruitful, whether the fruit it bears be in the manner they had hoped it would be, in serendipitous ways, or both.

May you both be blessed, and through you others be blessed also.

one version of Tara puja:

'Brief explanation of Green Tara Puja

This prayer pays homage to Tara, to create causes to attain enlightenment as well as avert obstacles and ensure success in worldly spiritual affairs. Green Tara is known as a Swift Liberator, commonly believed to be born from the tears of Bodhisattva Avolokiteshvara, Tara materialized and vowed to assist Him in the battle to reverse the tides of Samsara. Through the strength of Her female form, she attained full enlightenment and was able to emanate myriad forms in order to aid sentient beings with the lightning swiftness. One of her best known forms is the assembly of 21 emanations (21 Arya Tara).'

Thanks Ben. I don't understand all of that but I did understand enough.:)

That is one of the cool things about a pantheon. Heck, even most mono-religions have some saints, prophets, servants or sons of God to act in this role.

I watched and even participated some and still don't understand exactly what went on. I do know that each of the 21 Taras got 7 mantras and a lot of goodies were offered up on the altar. Names of those who had asked for specific prayers were placed on the Lama's workbench -- names and particulars translated into Tibetan by Samten -- and each got their special request taken care of.

Email this AM tells me at least one got what he was looking for and I'm thankful for that.
