Message to everybody. It ain't over 'till it's over.

Uncle Bill,
Whatever happens, it has been a pleasure to be able to do buisiness with you. Your honest dealings with us all is a testament to the fact that a good man can make a differance. You have done well by all of us, and in doing so have been able to help a good group of people get their incredible work be found world wide. You have touched more lives and helped more people than most men will ever be able to. You have fought the good fight, and fought it well. I can only pray that the rebel situation is solved, and the people of Nepal can walk the streets in some sort of safety and ply their trades again without fear. I will pray that this comes to pass soon!

Patton and Churchhill -- I'm in good company.

From a WWII German dossier on Patton: "He swears like a stableboy but prays on his knees."

That's another couple of idiosyncracies I share with Patton.

Many thanks to all for such fine support.

A special thanks to all of those who emailed offering financial and other support. Good guys all!!!!

And a very special thanks to those who emailed me reminding me who I really am when I was down taking the count.

Bill -

If it was just that we like our toys and don't want to lose the only source of supply, it would be wrong to ask you to carry on, working cruelly long hours and risking your health.

If it was just that you have a job selling stuff, and it's getting so the game isn't worth the candle, there'd be nothing to stop you packing it in and headin for the beach.

But there's more to it than that. You've taken responsibility for a bunch of guys - hard-working, honest men who happen to be masters of their trade, for whom you're the difference between survival and disaster. You recognise this responsibility, and you've never once shirked it.

And, in a way, we've taken on a small part of that responsibility too; by joining in this forum and this community, by extending our involvement from just buying good knives to fellowship, friendship and concern. You've made us aware of what our purchases mean to the guys at BirGorkha, and that changes everything. It's not like buying a Ford car or a Hershey bar any more. It's participation.

So, we accept and embrace our share of the responsibility. When we ask if there's anything we can do to help, we mean it.

If relocating is the best chance of survival, we'd like to help, in any way you think would make a difference; a price increase, payment in advance for khuks to be delivered at an unspecified future date, auctions and raffles, outright donations, whatever.

Please think about it and let us know. At the very least, we could make commercial history as the first customers to raise a petition to our supplier demanding that he *raises* his prices...

I'm glad to hear that you're up for the 101st time, Uncle! I was discussing the whole mess with my boss today, and I told him it wasn't in your and Pala's natures to throw in the towel. Needless to say, after reading this thread,I really liked being right! ( Yes, I know it was a certainty!:D ) Your business, and more importantly, your way of doing business can do nothing but build friends and allies where lesser businessmen can only possibly build customers. You deal honorably with everyone and this stands in such stark contrast to normal customer "dis" service these days.

Here is one of my favorite Quotes: ( Think it kinda fits in to the diccussion)

"The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is, that one often comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won't."

-Henry Ward Beecher

Thanks for continuing to fight, Uncle Bill!

Uncle Bill,
Enjoyed our conversation the other day! Glad to hear your sticking with it. The world needs more people like you! You and the folks in Nepal are in my prayers. And if I could you'd have a shipment of Uzis to go with them. God Bless!
Sincerely,
Mike Martin

Sounds like the fire is gaining heat !!

Uncle, I consider you a friend and wouldnt burn you. Just as well you are on our team.

Regards and prayers

Brendan

Uncle Bill, you know we're all behind you 150%. It ain't over till the fat lady sings...and she hasn't sung yet.

I can't tell all of you how much this support helps.

But I can tell you without shame I hear that Lorelei singing from the beach down in Mexico and it's a beautiful song but I ain't heard the fat lady singing yet!

There's nothing worse (or better, depending on your viewpoint) than a hardhead cheered on by a bunch of other hardheads.

Gents, I told Uncle Bill a short time back that if we had a few more honest busienss men in this country; Life sure would be a lot easier to live.

Glad you aren't giving up Uncle. Prayers are going up. I have a lot of acquaintances but, very few friends. So, I'll always try to be one for you as long as I last.;) :) :)

If this were the case, then capitalism would actually work! ;)

You know your dharma Uncle, and like Arjuna you are committed to carrying it out. Or at least that's my take.

Well said!

The khukuris are fine tools but its knowing that the money goes towards helping out the kamis who sweat long hours over their crafting that make me treasure mine.

Uncle Bill, as a long as there are men like you left in the world, there is hope for us yet.

I'd go to bed every night thinking of the kamis and sarkis. Do they have a job? enough to eat? Are they cold? And Bura and Kesar and his 20 dependents would come to haunt me in my dreams.

That's what makes you such a great human being, Uncle. Compassion is something that is totally unnecessary to any individual person, and so is all the more important when you find it. You could think only of yourself, just like plenty of other people do, but your conscience won't allow that, and that's worth more than any altruistic gesture ever could be.

As for the Maoists, I believe it was Shakespeare who originally said "To the last moment I stab at thee... With my last breath, I spit in thy face...". I for one sure hope BirGorkha can show these Maoists how free men really feel.

Uncle Bill,

The work you have accomplished in these past years is tremendous, not only because of the dedication and hard work that you and Pala have put into this business but also because you have succeeded at creating one of the strongest virtual family the web will ever see. Through you, I have friends and family all over. From Maine to Miami and from PHL all the way to Nepal (with a stop in Reno).Don't give up!
