Messenger bag/Haversack

Try Bailey Bags. Made in USA, and they can do Camo. I've got a medium messenger bag--makes a great briefcase/gym bag--too big for your purposes, but they make a small version and a little pouch (murse) that looks like it would fit your needs. Quality is great.

I'll throw in a second vote for the Filson field bag. It is extremely tough. I've used mine on numerous trips for the past 15+ years and it is still going strong. That little bag has been all over the world. It's a little dirty, has a stain or two, but it's ready for the next trip. You won't find a better field bag.

I think this shoulder bag idea is the way I am going to go. I have lots of backpacks but the thing I am getting tired of is not being able to access anything without taking it off, my camera, piece of plastic to sit on, shotgun shells, water bottle and all the other crap I put in my pockets. I have already prepped the wife for a birthday present from filson. ;) Chris

Very nice!

Here's a shot of mine (Magnussen Minislim added for scale). I think I'll put some Lexol on the leather; but hey, it's 15 years old..at least. I think it's almost broken in now. :D

Just a reminder: remove knives before going through TSA; I nearly lost an Osborne Folder after leaving it in one of the pockets.

I've been toying with the idea of a shoulder bag for my hiking over the various fanny packs and one day pack I've been using for so long. Glad to see others who've found another way of carrying gear. Don't Ray Jardine and Cody Lundin use shoulder bags of various types?

I have not forgot about the filson but in the interim I bought this off of EBAY for 10 bucks shipped, it is some kind of gas mask bag. Today was the first day I got out to try it out, I am very pleased. It carried everything I needed with room to spare, comfortably, for about a 5 hour tramp. I am going to sew some loops on the bottom to strap my poncho to and I think it will be perfect for woods loafing day trips. Chris

Its a long one. Stay in touch while you are there. Do you know your follow up assignment after this tour?

If you want something a lot less modern, the pathfinder haversack is a great option. Oilskin canvas, durable, and about $30.

I carry a High Speed Gear Inc Amordilla V1 as a daily carry work bag.

High Speed Gear Inc is super toughly built, very versitile, and NC made :)
