Some of you will remember the recent threads about bag recommendations ---- "Murses" or Man Purses:

Sometimes it's terrible to be OCD :grumpy:

I bought and returned 2 Saddleback Leather bags (the satchel, then the messenger.) There was nothing wrong with them, in fact I was impressed with the quality, incredible stuff. I LOVED the satchel, but it was about an inch too small, then the Messenger was huge -- looked like I was going on a very long trip somewhere...

I kept looking unsuccessfully for a very specific size "computer" bag, and finally got up the courage to potentially "waste" a huge hunk of my very expensive and precious W&C leather on a bag experiment.

Here's what I came up with (NMFBM to keep the Busse content and to prove to 1whoBuys that it's a man bag, not a woman's :p):

This one is the first I've ever done, so there will definitely be changes in the next one. It's definitely not Saddleback Leather quality, not yet. But it fits my needs better. So I returned the 300 dollar Saddleback, and I think I have about 40 dollars worth of leather and hardware in this one.

Although I must say that it was a LOT OF WORK --- I won't tell you how many labor hours went into it (even with the simple rough finish), but I know why hand built bags aren't cheap

Overall I'm pleased. But I intend to use it for a while so I will know what changes to make to the next one.

Thanks for looking.

Looks good and functional to me, great work.

Thanks for sharing

DUDE! bravo.....and that is your first bag ever? Hell, I couldn't have done that if somone had a gun pointed to my head. Very nice!

Definite purse! LOL

Hey, use what you like.

OK, old-school boys - remember that episode of Adam-12 where the blond guy got a Murse from the other guy for his b-day or something. I was, like, 8 at the time and found it a bit. . . let's just say I had my back against the wall while watching the end of that episode. LOL

That's a beautiful man-purse, Eli. Don't let anyone tell you any differently. :p

One of these days, I'd like to come down to Tejas, hunt some hogs, and get a leather stitching lesson or two from you.

Id carry it all day and dare someone to say something about my murse.

Looks great Eli and I cant believe how well it looks for your first bag.

You defenitly have tons of talent bro.

Thanks for sharing!!

No, it's not right to match Tony and Tim, I'll have to find something different :D

You guys are shameful, shoulder bags have been manly gear for centuries. Soldiers in Washington's army carried haversacks, heavy canvas shoulder bags in which they carried extra rations, greasy lumps of mutton and hardtack, jack knives, musket tool, flint and steel kits, and powder for their wigs. Frontier riflemen carried leather "possibles" bags in which they carried jack knives, bullets, patch material, and patch grease made of beeswax and bear grease, which also doubled as lip gloss. Be honest, we have tons of manly stuff to carry around. I've been carrying a shoulder bag for 30 years (not every day, that would be unmanly) and I'll bash it over the head of anybody who makes fun of me.

Edit: Those moccasins are to die for.

AMEN, right on

They're just jealous because they spent all their money on Busses and can't afford (or make) a MAN BAG :D

*ahem*

I already have a man bag or two. Could we please use the term satchel from now on? :D

Eli, that's effin' fantastic work, brother. I had a feeling you'd go that route, and I'm glad you did. Now the question is: why did you EVER consider buying one from someone else when you've got the skills, knowhow and materials to make one yourself? Buying things is for those of us who can't make them ourselves.

Great work, brother.

George, DN and I are jealous. :D
