Helped Lou Graham from Foreigner and Phil Esposito(NY Rangers Hockey player) at the counter when I was a fish monger. Saw Michael Clarke Duncan at the Las Vegas airport. Have been in the Las Vegas suite of the Sugar Hill Gang while in Vegas for work, met Lil' John, been to private concerts with Dilated Peoples, all kinds of crazy stuff.

The biggies for me thus far: Les Paul on my honeymoon, Colonel Rex Applegate at the OKCA show, "Patches" Watson at the OKCA, and Richard "Dick" Marcinko at a number of knife related events.

My good upbringing(I was in the Cub Scouts ya know...) prevailed and I went and told them about the camera
They were VERY happy that I told them about it

Orel Hershisher on Southwest Airlines from PHX to ABQ

The guy next to me said "I think Orel Hershiser is behind us"
"Really?..well..Well..I'll know that chump if I see him..I guarantee!!..I am an A's fan..I hate Orel!!"
I turn around..and it IS Orel
We chit chatted a few mins..He was on his way to start his coaching job with the ABQ Dukes (Dodgers farm team)
The guy next to me gave him the "thanks for all the years of pleasure you have given us watching you.."
All I could think about was this the whole trip:grumpy:

I was on a flight from Auckland, NZ to LAX with Danny DeVito :) security in LAX assumed i was his body guard (i'm a big guy and was wearing all black) and they were going to usher me through the VIP entrance.

I thought it was ammusing, he is REALLY short in person though (i'm 6'7" though).

Also Ron Jeremy at LAX, the man is a god to be that ugly and bone that many women.

Also met the whole cast in the new Chronicles of Narnia movie in post production...I knew one of the film studio guys who got me on set for filming in Australia.

Eugene Roche, use to play the Ajax man in commercials among other roles. I had finished watching a episode of Magnum P.I. one afternoon that he was playing the role of Luther H. Gillis in, turned off the tube and walked out the front door of my apartment in Westwood to go for a run and he was standing at the bottom of the step with his dog Duffer wearing the same blue searsucker suit coat that he had worn in the show. I said to him " I just saw you on t.v." ; turned out he lived a couple of apartment buildings from me with his wife and youngest daughter. We became friends and I ended up marrying one of his daughters a few years later, the rest is history.
Eugene passed away July 28 2004, God rest his soul.

I met James Ellroy in '95 at a book signing for American Tabloid at Murder One, a famous bookstore in London. He was wearing a Hawaiian shirt and a Rolex (GMT Explorer - pepsi bezel). He was pretty hyper - doing a whole carny barker role telling people to roll up and buy his book. I couldnt afford the price of the hardcover so I got him to sign one of his older books - White Jazz - in paperback. Of course I regret it now, because the first edition of American Tabloid with an author's signature would be pretty collectible. He was cool although I find his writing style a bit irritating now though.

The guy I would most like to meet is Cormac McCarthy. Or maybe Stephen King.

I read a lot...

I have worked various retail jobs and met my share of well-known people but my favorite has to be AB Dick, of AB Dick Corp in Chicago. Younger people will likely never have heard of him but anyone older than 40 or so will remember the name, since AB Dick was heavy into school supplies. I was working for an Apple dealer and visited his office to help him with stock-trading software. Wonderful guy, as is typical of 50's-60's era midwest Americans.

I shook hands with H.R. Giger and ran into (almost literally) the band Korn. All within moments of each other.

Worked at a Porsche dealer in the '80S where Oakland Raider QB
Ken Stabler bought a couple of cars. Super guy, would always
bring free tickets for the techs and office girls.

In the off season John Matusak would bring the cars in for service.
Largest and scariest human being I have ever met. I'm sure
all the stories about him are true.

I Slapped hands with Michael Jordan, Toni Kukoc, Dennis Rodman, Scotty Pippen, and Luc Longley before a 95 game against the Jazz. That was a great game!!! Half court row C! What a blast.

I also ate lunch with Mike Singletary and Dick Butkus while visiting the chicago bears "new" training camp. I was literally sandwhiched in between them.

A bunch of folks over the years:

Music related: Metallica (a good friend of mine married one of them), most of the classic Bay Area metal bands, various other bands, usually back stage (Fates Warning, Sepultura, Metal Church, King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden). Various others: Diana Krall, Sara McLachan, Lisa Loeb [a real sweety], 98 degrees [turds], N Sync...

Movie/TV: Ed Harris, Conan OBrien, Adam Savage (Mythbusters), Topher Grace...

Sports related: Orlando Cepeda, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, some pitcher from the Giants (cant remember his name), some thug oakland raider (can't remember his name), Warren Sapp, a bunch of old-school pro-wrestlers....

I've been in one movie: Zodiac (the David Fincher, '07 one).

I met Ron LaBella in a dark alley once. I was scared, he was calm and coo the whole "encounter".

I met Wes Craven after a movie screening, not much to tell though.
Met Ron Paul at a book signing.
I've also seen Pat Day and Mitch McConnell at the Louisville airport. (not at the same time)

Met some famous people or sports people to say. Denny Neagle went to school just down the road from me and I met him. So did Mark Teixeira and I have played against him (at the time he was just a good player). When I was a kid I met Pete Rose and didnt know who he was till my mom (who is a FANATIC Reds fan) told me why he was so damned important.

Met Joe Flacco and some other Ravens players (my g/f has served them on many occasions where she works p/t). I have met many government officials due to my job. Sometimes you dont even know who they are until you see a picture of them up on the walls in the Statehouse or Senate.

Met some other famous people but for the life of me cannot remember them.

Okay, I was literally born in Hollywood back in the day and have met quite a few celebrities (mostly gone now like George Burns, Rod Serling, Betty Davis); usually through my jobs in and around Southern California. My dad worked as a sports writer in the 50's and early 60's for Tom Harmon (actor Mark Harmon's father) and CBS so I did know Mark when I was young.

The one notable incident was as a callow youth. Not a current star, but a big time celeb at the time. I was attending UCLA and was hitchhiking to class (pretty common back in the late 60's) on Sunset Bl. and Barrington (for those of you Angelinos who know the area). A blue Mustang Mach I? beeps and the driver gives me a nod. I ran over, jumped in, the light changed and the driver asked me where I was going. I told him I needed to get to UCLA. We didn't say much at first and I really didn't pay attention to the guy. The radio was playing and a commercial came on and some guy with a distinctive voice (a tv actor named Phillip Carey) was pitching Granny Goose potato chips. At that point the driver starts talking a little about how well that gig was working out for the pitchman/actor. It was obvious this guy knew something about the industry so I looked over at him paying a little more attention. It actually took me a couple of seconds, but it was James Garner (The Great Escape, Rockford Files, Maverick). We had a nice conversation about his future projects, past work and he dropped me off on campus. Very nice fellow.

Oh, and Debbie Reynolds gave me a kiss on the cheek New Year's Eve when I worked cooking in a famous Hollyood restaurant in the late 70's.
