Metal Composition Testing Service?

Hello:

For a really off-topic topic:

Do you folks know of any person/service that can find out what the exact metallic composition of an object something is? It's metallic, magnetic and rusts radily, but apart from that, I have no idea if it is a variation of wrought iron, carbon steel or mystery magic metal...

Any DIY test would be appreciated too.

Fastenal does it but I never got around to calling them to find the price for the service.
 
For the DIY approach, you could try and spark test it and also quench test it. This will at least give you an idea of what it could be.

Hmmm...Fastenal...I think there is a location nearby. Thanks. As far as spark testing...a bit out of my league, but maybe an experiment in the future.
