Metal file/saw -- anybody use this?

What do you use the Metal file/saw for? Is it primarily for sawing through metal (seems like an uncommon task)?

Is the file like a typical file for smoothing your nails?

I use the file (not to smooth my nails, for that I use the one on my Classic SD) a little more than the saw, but I've used that too a few times, for example when I had to fight with a small lock to which I lost the key.

I used it to put serrations/teeth on the table knife of a mess kit cutlery set so I could cut my food better when camping.

I have used them to sharpen machetes and touch up hatchets in the woods also have used them for various projects when I have had to trim metal (smooth edges once cut) or get the edge off raw wood for splinters.

I use the file quite regularly. I am specifically speaking of the one on my Charge & Wave (which are the same). I use the coarse (metal) side to finish rough metal cuts or to remove burrs from metal. The diamond side is used for even finer smoothing and fingernails.

You guys aren't even getting your files warmed up!
Somehow, TWICE, I ended up at the top of a "Shore" bike trail, ridiculously technical downhill, with a full-length brand-new 6061 seat post. And twice I had to cut through the seatpost so I could drop the seat far enough into the frame to not endo going down these crazy trails. Took about 10 minutes each time, 31.8mm OD, about 2-3mm wall thickness.

What tool was the file/saw on ?

I used the metal saw on my SwissChamp the week before last to saw off a small padlock from a suitcase (my wife had lost the key for the padlock). The metal saw made quick work of the (not very robust) padlock hasp.

For me, the metal saw/file is used MUCH more than the wood saw (I don't hunt nearly as much as I used to). I have also needed to remove small padlock, I had to widen the locking slot on an aluminum framed sreen door, cut some small bolts and other hacksaw like chores. Since I still fish offshore quite a bit, the file is critical for sharpening big game hooks, gaffs and cleavers/hatchets. It all depends what your needs are. My wife uses woodsaw quite a bit in the garden, which is the sort of work I studuiously avoid.

It was on my original LM Supertool. I was amazed it worked so well.

LOL, I've also found a new use for the diamond side of my Surge file, off the tool.. Filing my infant daughter's fingernails, which she seems to be able to sharpen at will! A mildly disturbing pic of my little gangster in her "hood": ;) (it's unloaded, triple-checked, and muzzle pointed in a safe direction!)

Saw is very good for grabbing cotton out of medicine bottles. File is used for finger nail trimming. Did use the saw to trim a branch yesterday though.

With all due respect, man, it is disturbing. Very disturbing. Guns disturb me, but guns+kids make me feel worse, weird, almost sick. No offense intended.

It's a tool, just like a blade. It can be used for sport, collected or to cause people harm, just like a blade.

Guns do not disturb me, but context is all important. There is something very disturbing that a firearm can be considered a "cute" prop for an infant. It shows lack of respect for both.

Your particular pistol, while it can be used for "sport" or other purposes, has been specifically designed as a weapon. Juxtaposing a lethal "tool" with the springtime of life is, at best, adolescent humor.

I don't care if you are offended.

Well, it's gone a little OT :D, but I just wanted to say that while I understand your statement about adolescent humor, I took this picture mainly for the benefit of my gun-owning friends. It's de rigeur for new parents on the other shooting boards I belong to. I fully understand the way it may look, but it's also a statement about it being a tool. It's inanimate. As a responsible father and firearms owner, I triple-checked that it was unloaded, and it's not about to load and fire itself. It's inert. Exactly like the guys with the 24/7 webcam on an AR-15 leaning against a wall, "waiting for it to jump up and start shooting on its own". It's safe in the right hands, and dangerous in the wrong hands. The fact that it's in the right hands defines whether it's dangerous or not.
I do however respect everyone's opinions, and thank you for sharing them.

Clead,

Baby (very cute by the way) with gun (unloaded, triple checked or whatever) just doesn't equal wisdom from any perspective that I (pro-gun, pro-Second Amendment and father of four) can come up with. I am not trying to tick anyone off, but you might want to re-think the message you are sending out to everyone, including your child.

Sorry if I'm preaching,

Listen, I won't comment on the creapy aspect of the pic, it is weird. I understand your logic. I agree, the gun is a tool. but quite frankly, your cute kid+ your cool gun= a very bad idea. I don't know what forums that your going to that are "Pro Gun" and think this is a good idea, but I've never found any like that. I can tell you that I am as pro gun as it gets, I will die before I give mine up, and I have a young daughter (9 months) that will get a .22 when she is 8, and I will take her to the range and teach her all she needs to know. But I plead with you, take down the pic. The anti gunners out there don't need any more ammo, and no matter what you say, how you rationalize it, what ever your excuse....they will attack you, and all gun owners for shit like this. We, as gun owners, have to go way out there to make people like us, and see that we are good people. It sucks, but it is just the way it is. Please take the pic down, and don't post it on the web, it's a very bad idea. :(
