Metal Foam... AKA: Aluminum Foam
Just read about this stuff has anybody seen it or know where to get a piece to experiment with?
Appears to be like Styrafoam or Closed cell foam just made out of Aluminum
seen it online in various densities but not for retail... it is often used as a core material; are you going to put a skin on it or use it as is? Promise us you'll post pics if you get some!
I have a small sample at work somewhere. As mentioned before, it's intended for use as a core material in laminated structures. I cannot see any possible further use for the stuff since it's so open-celled, but a bit of creativity goes a long way.
here is a video http://www.livescience.com/common/media/video/player.php?aid=33147
I think it would be cool in stainless steel.
I have seen the bubbly stuff that was at 0:57 but the consistent stuff looks kind of weird and almost organic. Ti Foam anodized green would be really cool on a plant type design
